I love the new Cardigans album, Long Gone Before Daylight. 'Communication', 'Couldn't Care Less', and 'Feathers & Doom' are great. 'For What it's Worth' is adorable and 'No Sleep' is soft and sweet. I've also been listening to the new Nickel Creek album - This Side, as well Dar Williams' new album Beauty of the Rain. Springy, positive, natural music. I'd love to get anyone else's recent-album-recommendations. I'm planning my wedding (and no-way-no-how is a DJ going to select the music); and anyway I love having new music to listen to. Salam, Sophie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 2003 11:32:53 -0600 From: Blu and Katie Belsher Subject: Re: mmm Music (non-Sarah content) hey sophie. there are so many good artists out there... i dont know where to start. especially what to consider for a wedding. now, if it is the dance part, then almost anything goes. i am assuming that you have already picked your song for your ceremony, but if you havent, you should really check out the album, "the prayer cycle". its this orchestrated cd that alanis morissette sings on, and is absolutely beautiful. brilliant really. their is many singers, and they are all singing in different languages. (hungarian, mali, swahili, dwala, tibetan, german, french, italian, latin, urdu, and spanish) regardless, its really good. my wife walked up the aisle to a song off that cd... as for the dance part... since anything goes, here are a few artists i've been listening to alot lately: - -danny michel... if you havent heard of him, you can check out some of his mp3's at his site, www.dannymichel.com - -hayden is brilliant, all his albums are great... "everything i long for" probably my favorite still. - -andy stochansky is really good. his album "radio fusebox" is so so good, and his latest, "five star motel" is pretty good, quite a bit more poprockish, but would be great to boogy to. - -cracker "the golden age", not new, but quite brilliant. i highly recommend the song "big dipper"... it changed the way i view music. - -the eels are a pretty great band. the lead guy, used to go by the name "E". cool story how that came to be... but i have the album "daisies of the galaxy" and the whole album is quite good. some of my personal favorite songs off the album are, "i like birds", "flyswatter", and "wooden nickles". - -frank black and the catholics are amazing. frank black used to be "black francis" in the pixies... amazing songwriter... - -stephen malkmus makes gold... no matter what he touches. - -throwing in some stan getz would always be a sure investment... especially his version of "the girl from ipanema" with astrud gilberto. - -jeff buckley... jeff buckley, jeff buckley. enough said. - -wilco. their new album is marvaleous. "yankee hotel foxtrot" and their old ones are classics. i really like the album they did with billy bragg - -martin sexton is a genius. check out anything by him. - -the local rabbits. a small band from toronto i believe. worth checking out. - -neil finn. - -NQ arbuckle. his "battle scared pinata" was sent to me in the mail from six shooter records (nice people). our sarah slean sings back-up vocals on the song "drunken sailors". my other favorite off the album is the song "mixkin dancehall". it actually inspired me to write my first song. - -on the six shooter record note, other bands that are great with them are: veal, (headed up by luke doucet) who are quite good, martin tielli.... i could write you an essay on this man. in short... he is from the rheostatics... sooooo good. his solo album is really good, and his side project "nick buzz" with jon goldsmith is nothing short of amazing also. i would highly highly recommend anything that martin tielli touches. in fact, he is coming out with 4 new albums this year... yes... i am excited. - -the beta band are cool. i heard of them after they opened for radiohead in vancouver. i didnt get to see the show... anyways. listen to more radiohead also... everyone... including myself. - -the weakerthans... the entire left and leaving album is magic... - -ween... a little nutty. - -weezer... not so much the new stuff... but the old stuff worth digging out again. - - money mark... beastie boys side project... no voices... all instrumental - - gord downie "coke machine glow" - -on a different note... i am note sure how good this would be for a wedding... but in the "anyway I love having new music to listen to." category... tool... and a perfect circle... they never cease to amaze me. okay this is getting too long. but those are my current favorites anyways. the ones i've been listening to most. of course, our sarah slean is in their... but no sense pointing out the obvious. enjoy life... and congrats on the wedding. blu - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gina Shumway" To: Sent: Monday, April 14, 2003 8:50 AM Subject: mmm Music (non-Sarah content) > Wanted to recommend some stuff that I've been listening to recently. That's totally exciting, because it's the best of both worlds for him - Maple is an indie label, but with some cachet, plus they have distribution through Universal, so this just might be that breakout album he's been waiting for... :) He has some Canadian dates, including a Toronto date at the Horseshoe (geez, that'll be packed!), coming up in May, so check out his website for more details. Danny sang two well-chosen covers at the One Big No festival over the weekend - "Jeux Sans Frontiers" and "Imagine". Everyone was just transfixed. I heard a lot of, "Wow... Who IS that?" :-) - - Tab. _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 2003 22:32:29 +0000 From: "Tab Siddiqui" Subject: (OAC) Sarah Harmer show - any tapers?! Well just got back from a great weekend in Toronto. Caught the One Big No concert on Saturday. It was fantastic! All my pictures turned out like shit though :/ (can't see her face, must have been the lighting) Need to invest in a better camera. That was my third time seeing her perform Woodstock and it was just as great as the first time. Sweet Ones really blew me away though. Probably because it was the first time I've seen her play with some of her band. Last night I went to see Sarah Harmer play. What an amazing show that was. Got to meet her after the show and get a picture(one of the few that came out all right). A real nice person. Sure glad to be home though... Toronto is just way to big for my liking *smiles* It was snowing here today though :( ah well... all the best johnathan ps if anyone wants me to post the pictures I took I'll gladly do it. I know there has to be much much better ones floating around though. A girl at the show next to me was getting much better pictures it seemed :) _____________________________________________________________ Visit TheForce.Net Your Daily Dose of Star Wars http://www.theforce.net _____________________________________________________________ Select your own custom email address for FREE!
