We recorded our own versions of RHCP's "Give It Away" and two other songs on our new CD "Sexual Hangups", and we had to pay each composer eight cents for every CD we manufactured. If we had tried to use samples of their recordings, we wouldn't be paying just the composers the statutory amount, we'd also be be paying the record companies anything they wanted IF they agreed to let us license it in the first place. Actually, the RHCP's lawyer first just said "no, thanks" but we had to remind him that once a composition is performed publicly, anyone has the right to do their own version of it, as long as they pay royalties in the proper amount. We sent him a check for eighty bucks and never heard from him again. I'm going to make an offer here that I also gave the Fumblers -- a FREE copy of Sexual Hangups, just send your snail address to mickey@phonetheater.com. They'll cost me about four bucks each, but hey, ix Xmas. I also welcome addresses of reviewers and radio station personnel. This show might be known to some list members, but here's what I found out - The Bluebird north is comprised of evenings in which six performers alternately present 3 songs each. This might mean that Sarah will only be playing three of her songs each night, without her band. The performances usually take place in Toronto and Vancouver every other month, but I found an article about a series of shows that were taken across Canada earlier this year. This sounds like a similar cross-country tour. Good gig! :) A bit sad for not being able to witness any of this, Yaron. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-navy-soup@smoe.org [mailto:owner-navy-soup@smoe.org] On Behalf Of space monkey Sent: Saturday, December 14, 2002 10:03 To: navy-soup@smoe.org Subject: Re: new tour dates for those of you who haven't yet seen, there are new tour dates up on the website. she's coming back to us! :) so, anyway, a number of the shows are marked as being 'solo', so does anybody know if that means without a band, or merely without an opening act? _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses.
