If you're looking for > the most reliable, go with Verisign. Uh, no. Verisign are slime. The lowest of the low. Terrible customer service, and prices that are 3-4x higher than other registrars that provide much better customer service. Want some examples of how bad they are? Check out: http://www.lowendmac.com/woods/02/0702.html http://www.tweakie.com/verisign/ http://nsihorrorstories.com/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/23/28068.html I had enough trouble dealing with them that I pulled all of my domains from them. I was using a friend's OpenSRS/Tucows registry/reseller, but ended up becoming a reseller myself, since it gives me an added level of control. Given what I've seen of OpenSRS/Tucows from the inside, I'd highly reccomend any OpenSRS/Tucows reseller, such as DomainMonger.com - -j ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Dec 2002 21:30:20 -0800 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: Re: No Slean content - How do you register your domain? They are three times as expensive, slow, have awful customer service, and if someone steals your domain, you are SOL. They are dishonest and deceptive marketers -- I could go on, but just search for "verisign sucks" on google to find horror story after horror story. I use joker.com. Of all songs? Oh please.. give me a break! That song is so dull that I want to bury myself as soon as it starts! Ok, ok I'm lying through my teeth :) Sorry, I couldn't resist it after reading your gushing post ;) I too love some of the songs that you've listed (Hallelujah especially). I agree that California is beautiful the way it is, but I trust Sarah to produce it amazingly for her record, Just like she did "Me, I'm a thief". I first heard it live and didn't think it can be so amazing on her record but boy was I wrong.. It IS different than the live version she used to do, but all for the better. I "worry" more for "Everything by the gallon" which was also rumored (confirmed?) to be on her next album. I only saw it once, in late 2000, and it had live b-side written all over it. I didn't think it would be on Night Bugs and was surprised to hear that it's supposed to be on the new album. It seems that some of the lyrics have changed by now, and probably the arrangement as well, so I'm most likely to be surprised of the album version when I hear it. But as I said before I trust Sarah to do it marvelously :) You are not alone. The song is constantly on repeat in the playlist of my mind. And if it's just the two of us, do save me a room at the madhouse :) Yaron - -----Original Message----- From: owner-navy-soup@smoe.org [mailto:owner-navy-soup@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Blu Belsher Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 08:41 To: navy-soup@smoe.org Subject: i was thinking, and i am pretty sure that the song california is one of the most brilliant songs ever written. so human... it makes me feel weak... or strong... perhaps both. i dont know if i want to see it on a CD. i dont think a recorded version would be able to capture the intensity of the song. half the beauty of it, is watching the band and audience alike fall into a trance. drool coming from the crowd and increasing passion from the band... im not sure... i suppose the song could be done in a manner that captures that feeling... i just fear that i would listen to the song over and over again and destroy it, oh yes, there have been songs in my life which have provoked a sense of passion prior to california. for instance, there was "say it aint so" or "the world has turned" (among others) by weezer, "self serve gas station" by the rheostatics, "big dipper" by cracker, numerous songs by radiohead, "hallelujah" leonard cohen's song done by or late friend jeff buckley, or perhaps one of tools mind boggling adventures... but this song... i cant get it out of my head... its so... something... human... or something. i dont know. i would like to hear someone else describe it... i am simply dumbfounded. inspired... struck.... if anyone on this list talks to sarah or the band... please, let them know that they have changed music, altered it forever, revolutionized it... if not only in my eyes. anyways... i hope i am not the only one who feels this way, otherwise, i will self admit myself to the local crazyhouse until i can deal with the shockwaves of music in my head... dramatically yours... blu ps. enjoy life. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Dec 2002 09:59:43 -0500 From: "Kelly Goodlad" Subject: RE: California and mental health (no topic) >I "worry" more for "Everything by the gallon" which was also rumored >(confirmed?) to be on her next album. "Everything By The Gallon" is my favourite Slean song ever, mostly because I think the lyrics are just so freaking great (poignant?). It seems like a song that really nails what she's all about. Though not knowing her, I could be wrong. ;) So, the lyrics have changed? Do you know what they are now? I know that Sarah confirmed that California, Everything by the Gallon and Day One would be on her next album. Regarding the lyrics change on EBTG, the old one started with: Everything by the gallon Nothing at all half way This is what I want to be someday, someday And now it seems that the last line had changed to: He said to me it's the only way, only way There are probably some more changes. I personally prefer the old line :) I absolutely adore this song! Stephen's full show is there as well if I recall, though it's over 300MB. It's in the directory http://www.live-music.org/sk. I need to solve my storage issues as well as potentially address bandwidth concerns before bringing that fully online. And to clarify, I don't have a big issue with bandwidth per se, but I have literally GBs of stuff I could post (not Slean related) that would eventually use up all my disc space and my bandwidth. I'm trying to figure out the right balance. I already have a lot of Emm Gryner stuff out there (http://www.emmgryner.net). And while we're on the subject, does anyone know what Sarah's official stance on recording is? I got permission to record this show, but I'm been led to understand previously that Sarah isn't a big fan of live recordings in general. If someone can change my mind, I might be talked into posting the whole show for download sometime.
