" this is surely one of the most brilliant phrases i've ever heard, and as soon as i'm done with this message, i'm submitting it to explodingdog.com to see if he will draw a picture for it. she said that duncan was "a song about love" and that day one was "about beginnings". after that song, she said, "my father called me book smart, street stupid... and i took great offence". her bass player then mentioned that she had missed the whole middle part of that introduction, and she said something about keeping one's bass players on a short leash. sarah kept making comments about the fact that the venue was called wild bill's saloon (yeehaw). before blue parade she asked if one was allowed to be characteristically un-wild at wild bill's. for vertigo she hopped off the stage and wandered around the dance floor, about a metre away from where i was sitting, singing with her eyes closed. california -- if nothing else, the reason i was there in banff at all -- was utterly amazing. this is surely the most beautiful song ever written. before st francis, they were getting ready to play the score, and sarah said they were going to play "a mean song." then she must have either checked her setlist, or changed her mind, because they decided to do st. francis instead, requiring andrew to change his guitar. "they never know what i'm going to do!" she laughed. st. francis then began with a recording of some pizzicato strings, and sarah made little gestures like exploding fireworks. "stars...." she whispered, and the lighting guy turned on the disco ball! although she described the score as being 'mean', i'd say it's downright evil. wonderful. sweet ones is where all hell broke lose. it seems that tristan (a girl in the audience whom i met after the show and ended up getting a ride back to calgary with) had promised sarah to dance to sweet ones. so sarah said to her "you'd better keep your promise" and so, sure enough, she got up and started dancing to the song, even causing sarah to stop singing and start laughing when she started doing the robot. tristan's dancing prompted many other people to come down to the dance floor too, so i grabbed my friend jordan with whom i had come to banff, and we did our own clumsy dance number. this earned us the title of "the dancing guys" which is certainly weird because it is quite possibly the only time i have ever danced in my life. i don't remember which song it was that contained the 'aah-aah-aah' singalong -- it was any of the last four -- but everyone who had been at the calgary show (remember, this means pretty much anyone who was listening), starting singing the 'aah-aah-aah' part -- un-prompted, mind you. sarah said she needed to change her underwear, which caused me to stop singing for a little while as i tried to stop laughing uncontrollably. ...okay, this was only supposed to be a setlist, and so i think i'll leave this message as it stands for now. a greater account of both shows, how i ended up in banff, and constant reiterations of the fact that sarah hugged me :) ... to come in a later message. for now i have to concentrate on writing these damned school papers. - --alex _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam?
