Cancer *can* be beaten; the mother of a good friend of mine did beat it and she has been cancer-free for almost five years. thanks Julian - -----Forwarded Message----- From: owner-navy-soup@smoe.org To: owner-navy-soup@smoe.org Subject: BOUNCE navy-soup@smoe.org: Header field too long (>1024) Date: 30 Jul 2002 23:34:57 -0400 Received: from clmboh1-smtp3.columbus.rr.com (clmboh1-smtp3.columbus.rr.com [65.24.0.112]) by smoe.org (8.12.2/8.12.2) with ESMTP id g6V3YF3C005182; Tue, 30 Jul 2002 23:34:16 -0400 (EDT) Received: from RTittel (dhcp16659111.neo.rr.com [24.166.59.111]) by clmboh1-smtp3.columbus.rr.com (8.11.2/8.11.2) with SMTP id g6V3X5o02566; Tue, 30 Jul 2002 23:33:06 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <000801c23842$1962d660$6f3ba618@neo.rr.com> From: "Rob Tittel" To: "JoAnn & Dennis Trujillo" , , "Vincent M. Kristen is hanging in there and staying in pretty good spirits. She has been out of the hospital bed and even walked around the floor a little bit today. She gets a ton of visitors everyday and that is helping a lot. She has a pretty positive attitude about her condition and seems to be geared up for a long fight. They told her today that the tube in her nose will probably come out in the next few days. She still is a few days away from solid food. They don't want to start her on that too early, because if the colon is not healed fully, it could tear and she would need a colostomy -- and as she put it, that would put a serious damper on pool season. So her spirits are good despite the fact that she did not get good news today. The doctors came in and gave her prognosis to her now that the biopsy is done on the tumor. It is Colon Cancer, stage 4, not Ovarian cancer as previously thought. Kristen asked how long she would have if she were to not get treatment (not the she doesn't intend to); she just wanted a time table -- they said a year. With treatment, however, it will slow the cancer down and who knows how much time she could have. Stranger things have happened and we still are praying for a miracle. To put it in current events terms, just look at Lance Armstrong. He was given a 4 in 10 chance of survival -- so advanced was his disease that no doctor gave him a chance, and not only did he overcome it, but he went on to win his 4th Tour de France this year -- a bike race so long an intense that it takes almost 3 weeks and 2,000 miles to complete. So with a positive mental outlook, anything could happen. Kristen said tonight over and over again, "I'm going to fight this". She has no intention of quiting. She could begin Chemotherapy as early as next week. They need to do a CAT scan on her and some other tests before they can begin. But she will NOT quit. We her friends will not quit on her either. I want to personally thank everyone who has emailed back and sent their well wishes and prayers. The response to my first email has been overwhelming. I'm going to print every email that you guys sent me and put them in a folder and take them to her tomorrow wehn I go to visit her so she can see what wonderful people she has in her corner. I promise to keep you all updated as she progresses through her treatment. Thanks again everyone. Keep praying.
