I'm one of the many Navy Soup lurkers, but I had to say something about this what with my being originally from Newcastle and all (where silverchair hail from). I actually didn't think it was a very 'pop' album even though the songs are definately 'happier' and more optimistic. You can't compare the band's sound to what they sounded like on the 1995 'Tomorrow' EP... they have come an awful long way since then. On this album the standout song for me is "One Way Mule". Ah yes...one of the harder tracks, which I also like a great deal. They're still a rock band, but those hooks...man...beautiful. _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Apr 2002 01:57:54 +0000 From: "Tab Siddiqui" Subject: Sarah Slean interview/review... Hey, all... Forgive the self-promotion , but I'm happy to report that my recent interview with Sarah is up on the UmbrellaMusic site right now, as is my review of the new album (which was very hard to write, so difficult to find just the right words, but I'm very happy with how it turned out :))... Just a disclaimer - while our Miss Slean looks like a tiny, perfect pop star in the clip, I had just run over from school in the rain and thus come off appearing rather, uh, *bedraggled* (as my dear friend Matt would say ;)). Suffice it to say, I don't usually look that bad, so do ignore. It was a really fun interview (of course), and Sarah has some beautiful things to say about art and music and life in general, so do check it out. I should mention that you need a fairly good connection (although there is a low-speed option) and Windows Media Player (it's built in to the site - the player pops up when you click on the link - it can be tempermental sometimes, so if it doesn't work for you the first time, go back and try again later) to view the video interviews and other multimedia on the site. The main site is here: http://www.umbrellamusic.com (The interview is in the UmbrellaTV section, can't miss it - there's also recent interviews I did with fellow T.O. singer-songwriters Martina Sorbara and Andy Stochansky further down that column.) The review of "Night Bugs" can be found in the Reviews section, or here: http://www.umbrellamusic.com/reviews/rev_apr19.shtml Would love feedback, so feel free to get in touch after watching/ reading... - - Tab :) _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 23:11:40 -0400 (EDT) From: Andrea Subject: Re: Sarah Slean interview/review... Oh Tab, oh fellow list members, Tab and her wonderful writing skillz have again impressed me -- and intimidated me (which is why I don't even bother sharing my writing, it's ceral box reading compared to her). I love the CD review, and although I tried to put the wonderful "Night Bugs" into words, I just couldn't phrase it as well as you Master Tabular. Oh Tab, how do you do it? S O L I D Gonna look at that video clip now! - -Andy - --- Tab Siddiqui wrote: > Hey, all... > > Forgive the self-promotion , but I'm happy to > report that my recent > interview with Sarah is up on the UmbrellaMusic site > right now, as is my > review of the new album (which was very hard to > write, so difficult to find > just the right words, but I'm very happy with how it > turned out :))... > > Just a disclaimer - while our Miss Slean looks like > a tiny, perfect pop star > in the clip, I had just run over from school in the > rain and thus come off > appearing rather, uh, *bedraggled* (as my dear > friend Matt would say ;)). > Suffice it to say, I don't usually look that bad, so > do ignore. > > It was a really fun interview (of course), and Sarah > has some beautiful > things to say about art and music and life in > general, so do check it out. > > I should mention that you need a fairly good > connection (although there is a > low-speed option) and Windows Media Player (it's > built in to the site - the > player pops up when you click on the link - it can > be tempermental > sometimes, so if it doesn't work for you the first > time, go back and try > again later) to view the video interviews and other > multimedia on the site. > > The main site is here: > > http://www.umbrellamusic.com > > (The interview is in the UmbrellaTV section, can't > miss it - there's also > recent interviews I did with fellow T.O. > singer-songwriters Martina Sorbara > and Andy Stochansky further down that column.) > > The review of "Night Bugs" can be found in the > Reviews section, or here: > > http://www.umbrellamusic.com/reviews/rev_apr19.shtml > > Would love feedback, so feel free to get in touch > after watching/ > reading... > > - Tab :) > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Join the world^Rs largest e-mail service with MSN > Hotmail. > http://www.hotmail.com ______________________________________________________________________ Find, Connect Date! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V5 #81 ******************************
