The 'post cards' are actually a set of 5 small, square cards with different photos of Sarah on the front and lyrics to various songs from the album on the back (one of the cards has a short bio on it instead), all tired together with a blue ribbon and a little cardboard bug. :) In addition to the post cards, the album came with a bonus 2-song "PASS THIS ON" CD with Eliot and St. Francis on it. Since these songs are both on the album itself, the sleeve suggests giving the bonus disc to a friend to turn them onto Sarah Slean. Pretty cool, though I wish the bonus CD had actual bonus tracks on it. :) - -Kevin Yank. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 13:01:32 -0500 From: rturingan@dico.com Subject: Re: Bonus CD It looks like this might become a trend in marketing new artists. I'd already heard it a few weeks ago, so it didn't occur to me to report on the music now. Of course, it's great! There are no huge surprises, unless you haven't heard the new version of "Weight" yet, or heard her do it live recently. "Weight" is quite a bit different from how it originally was. Um..."St. Francis" is done in a very sleepy, acoustic guitar strumming style, a little different from how she does it live. At first I was surprised by that decision, but it's grown on me and I like it quite a bit. The harmonies are gorgeous throughout the album. "Duncan" and "Drastic Measures" rock my world just as much on the album as they do live. "Dark Room" is an instrumental, and I think I would have substituted it with another vocal track--don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, but I think it breaks up the flow being in the middle (track 7). It will be very interesting to see how the album is received by people who don't already know about Sarah and how talented she is. You can't listen to critics. I'm talking about real people! hehehe. >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Kelly Goodlad" >To: ; >Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2002 1:39 PM >Subject: Re: Bonus CD > > > > Hey...I didn't get the postcards! Dunn" Subject: new album impressions HMV newsletter today said "Sarah Slean wraps us round her little finger with her Hawksley Workman-produced piano-cabaret rhapsody. Breathtaking." After listening to the album about ten times, I'm in total agreement here. This album is first-rate, from the opening bars of Eliot to the rocking finale, Bank Accounts. I'm not as bothered anymore at Sarah's cabaret-style singing, although I still do prefer the "old" version of Eliot and other previously seen numbers. Nevertheless, the wonderful new material makes up for it, including the chilling instrumental track, which immediately conjured up memories of the movie "Schindler's List". Very spooky. Overall I think the album is more "accessible" than I originally thought, which can only bode well for Sarah. It'll be interesting to see what kind of push Large Generic Record Behemoth, I mean, Warner Brothers, gives it. Oh, and I think the new, funked-up version of "Weight" totally rocks. :-) - - Julian - -- [ Julian C.
