I actually did ask the Lee's security guys on doors what the count was, because sometimes it's hard to guess in a room that size, and they said it was 61. It's too bad, because that would've been a nice sized crowd at a smaller venue. I picked up Andrea Koziol's first two CD's at HMV last week and I'm ordering Kathryn Rose and Jory Nash online in a few days (when I get paid!) I got Tanisha Tait's cassette in the mail today and it wasn't at all what I expected - but WOW. There are some killer songs on that thing and the lyrics are like daggers through your heart. It made me cry. Sounds like she's been through some pretty heavy stuff. I love when artists open up in their music and write words that take guts to share. Now I need to get Andrea Florian's CD and also Rachel Smith, who sang at the Rivoli benefit and who you've all GOT to hear. I love discovering new artists! And I just found out that the Lindi on this mailing list who wrote me is the same Lindi I saw at CMW who was awesome... Nice to "meet" you Lindi! Grace PS - Is anyone else as excited as me about new Natalie Merchant AND Jewel albums coming out next week? What you should really be excited about is the upcoming release of Lindi's CD.... Simply put, it was spectacular. :) This was a benefit show for some human rights cause (something about enacts changes to foreign countries' constitutions to help out women specifically, I think). I only heard about it on Saturday, and Sarah told me that it was booked about a week in advance. The Grad Club is a house on Queen's University campus where they often have live music, and the room where the artists play is not all that big. So I think it was safe to say that it was a fairly intimate venue. :) There was a fair amount of audience participation with some of the songs, and even I sang along (though not loudly, mind you, no one wants to hear that). :) Enough intro, here's the setlist: 1) Book Smart, Street Stupid 2) Duncan 3) Sweet Ones 4) Eliot 5) Everything By The Gallon 6) Little London Night 7) Playing Cards With Judas 8) Oh Man (improv) 9) Butterfly (Weezer cover) 10) Vertigo 11) Me & Jerome 12) Habit 13) Last Year's War Encore: 14) Black Boys On Mopeds 15) Edelweiss This was one of my favourite concerts to date, even better than the first time I saw Sarah on March 3/01 at Common Ground on Queen's campus. I got to hear Playing Cards With Judas, which she didn't play last time, and I sure didn't expect to hear her cover Weezer. :) She spoke of meeting Weezer earlier this year, and she talked about disagreeing with the lyrics of the song No One Else, from the blue album. Specifically, "When I'm away she puts her makeup on the shelf", the idea that a girl only wants to look good for him irritated Sarah a bit, and everyone in the audience laughed as she was describing this. The lyrics that I can remember from the Oh Man improv were, "Oh no, we're at the Sarah Slean show...She's a little tipsy..." Several girls sitting behind me helped out with some of the backing vocals on Sweet Ones (i.e. "I'll tend to you" and "so fabulous') which clearly delighted Sarah. :) She also mentioned that she didn't play Habit very often, and she said that she might forget the words to Last Year's War, which was really good. Hell, every song was fantastic. :) During the encore, we had people singing the lyrics to both songs (though I didn't know Black Boys On Mopeds, I wasn't familiar with that song) and Sarah didn't even sing into the mic on Edelweiss. You know it's a small room when you can hear her reasonably well when she's not using the microphone. :) I talked to Sarah briefly after the show, thanking her as she graciously signed my copy of the new EP with, "Jeff - I saw you singing, you star!", which was very cool. :) Overall, it was a great concert experience, and I very much look forward to whenever Sarah decides to return to Kingston. :) Thanks to everyone that read this, I apologize for being so long-winded.
