Last February's quake cost us, seemingly permanently, the Fenix in Pioneer Square [both above and belowground spaces] and was a contributing factor to the OK Hotel's demise as well. With the city seemingly unwilling to provide an all-ages space, and two other clubs recently coming to their demise when their buildings were demo'd for new office space, Seattle is rapidly running out of small venues for local artists to play. Thankfully we still have the Crocodile Cafe, the back room at Sit'n'Spin, and a few others... but it's getting kind of scary. Here's hoping T.O. finds a way to keep those spaces [or something similar] going. God knows they're vital to a functional, vital local music scene. - ----------------------------------------------------------- John Stewart, Seattle, Washington, USA co-list-owner, Fumbling-Towards-Ecstasy list-owner, ToriNews stewartj@seanet.com - ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V4 #140 *******************************
