Um, sorry, but to me listening to Rufus Wainwright is only slightly less painful than having my toenails removed one by one while my cat uses a chalkboard for a scratching post behind me. Fortunately, I was able to find out ahead of time what time Tori's set started, so I didn't have to subject myself to him at any of the shows we went to. Sorry. I know lots of people are Rufus fans but frankly I have no clue why. He sounds like a dying sheep. People were fleeing the auditorium during his set at all the shows we attended. To hear a truly wonderful member of the Wainwright clan, give Rufus' aunt Sloan a listen. She has a rich, bluesy alto voice and surrounds herself with top-notch musicians. She's also one of the nicest people on the planet. http://www.sloanwainwright.com ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 20:53:21 -0400 From: "Kelly Goodlad" Subject: Re: OT: Seeing Tori, seeing C'est What? I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion. :) I'm also a HUGE fan of his sister Martha. What a gorgeous voice, and her songwriting talents are every bit as honed as Rufus's. Too bad she doesn't seem to have much of a website. >From: meredith >To: navy-soup@smoe.org >Subject: Re: OT: Seeing Tori, seeing C'est What? >Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 19:50:40 -0400 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from [66.89.201.78] by hotmail.com (3.2) with ESMTP id >MHotMailBDA342090044400437084259C94E896D0; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 16:51:54 -0700 >Received: from smoe.org (localhost [127.0.0.1])by smoe.org >(8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16) with ESMTP id f9QNp2gT003653;Fri, 26 Oct 2001 >19:51:02 -0400 (EDT) >Received: from localhost (daemon@localhost)by smoe.org >(8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16/submit) with SMTP id f9QNoxqB003651;Fri, 26 >Oct 2001 19:50:59 -0400 (EDT) >Received: by smoe.org (bulk_mailer v1.10); Fri, 26 Oct 2001 19:50:55 -0400 >Received: from smoe.org (localhost [127.0.0.1])by smoe.org >(8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16) with ESMTP id f9QNorgT003637for >; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 19:50:53 -0400 (EDT) >Received: (from majordom@localhost)by smoe.org >(8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16/submit) id f9QNoq6E003636for >navy-soup-outgoing; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 19:50:52 -0400 (EDT) >Received: from mx2.snet.net (mx2.snet.net [204.60.203.164]) by smoe.org >(8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16) with ESMTP id f9QNomgT003631 for >; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 19:50:48 -0400 (EDT) >Received: from svetlana.smoe.org (64.6.252.64.snet.net [64.252.6.64]) by >mx2.snet.net (8.12.1/8.12.1/SNET-mx-1.1/D-1.1/O-1.1) with ESMTP id >f9QNokpe022405 for ; Fri, 26 Oct 2001 19:50:47 -0400 >(EDT) >From owner-navy-soup@smoe.org Fri, 26 Oct 2001 16:52:56 -0700 >Message-Id: <5.0.0.25.2.20011026194326.02604100@mail.smoe.org> >X-Sender: meth@mail.smoe.org >X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 5.0 >In-Reply-To: >Sender: owner-navy-soup@smoe.org >Precedence: bulk > >Hi, > >>What I want to know is, for anyone who went to the Toronto Tori >>show...what the heck do you guys think of Rufus Wainwright? I had the opportunity to see her perform in NY a few years back and it was one of the most wonderfully surreal concert experiences of my life. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V4 #136 *******************************
