The show was in Stockton, CA, which is about an hour away from where I live. The venue was Caffein Den -- a very dark, ambient, sort of place. Sticks out like a sore thumb in a city like Stockton where mostly "cowboys" live. This cafi was, as Ms. Slean phrased it, "bizarre." This concert had Luke Doucet "headlining" and Sarah as an opener. But, actually, their sets were combined: Sarah played, then Luke, then Sarah, etc. It was really cool. And very intimate. At most, there were only about nine people listening at one time. The one downside to this show was all the scattering about that went on. I guess since Sarah and Luke aren't really well known in this part of the country, many people just ignored them -- walking in front of them while they were singing, stomping their feet; cell phones ringing endlessly; people walking into the room and shamlessly promoting their own shows. Very bizarre, indeed. But I did get to meet Sarah and Luke. They're lovely people. Sarah even asked me what song I'd like to hear since it was "my night," being the only fan of hers at the cafi. If I wasn't such a geek, I probably would have been able to have had a coherent conversation with Sarah after the show. But I was in complete awe. How can one not be?
