That would be Tanisha Taitt. http://ttaitt.virtualave.net/ yeah, i was there, too. very good show. tanisha was the pleasant surprise of the night -- she's improved immensely since I last saw her. great stage presence, very confident, was by far the most articulate about the issue of the night (racism) ... and, yes, she can sing. :) Paul shad 96c / uw cs 2001 / mac activist / eda / fumbler fan of / jewel / sophie b. / sarah slean / steve poltz / emm gryner / / x-files / buffy / dawson's creek / habs / bills / 49ers / t h i n k d i f f e r e n t. Subject: Portland OR show review! Hello all, Apologies if a review has already been posted, but I'm on digest...and I could not pass up the opportunity to write my first show review, so indulge me ;-) First and foremost, thanks to Sarah for coming *all* the way out west to share her music, and also to Brian...it was wonderful to meet you! Thank you so much for your kind offer(s), I hope we run into each other at future Slean concerts :o) I am just grateful my roommate showed up unexpectedly like that. Anyway, in my excitement, I made my way into Portland (and the club) waaay too early--ooops!--and sequestered myself in a little cafe with pie and hot chocolate to kill the time. I re-entered around 9:30 and began asking the sparse audience if they were there for Sarah Slean. Surely there are more PNW-Portland area soupers than just two! Is it just my imagination, or did the opener play longer than either Sarah or Luke? Hmmm. Well, when Sarah did appear after 10:30, she was fantastic...Wow! It was a shame she only played for about 45 minutes but I can't be too greedy I know...I won't post the whole setlist but will say a few things. During Vertigo I had my eyes closed and a smile plastered on my face; Bank Accounts and Everything by the Gallon I had never heard before and they were awesome! And, although "Book Smart..." didn't really grab me on the ep, I liked it live much much better. It was so kind of her to include me in her dedication of "Blue Parade"... Thank you for playing it! So I was all set to leave afterward but then Roommate Dustin appeared to save the day, revealed to me at the door he had already paid to get in, and we returned for Luke's set. Totally unfamiliar with his songs, but needless to say, his albums have now found a spot on my Christmas list :-) Sorry if this is much too long...I figured I would have a wait quite awhile to hear Sarah in person, so last night was a lovely surprise. So now it's back to studying....take care all and here's hoping Sarah returns soon! Thanks for reading and cheers, Heidi _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2001 21:07:28 -0600 From: "kyall glennie" Subject: Any Sarah Toronto performances this weekend? :) This might just be wishful thinking... hehe I'll be in Toronto for the Tori Amos concert on Friday (you have no idea how excited I am to see her live for the first time) and if Sarah or her management can arrange any little get-togethers at a club somewhere, I'll be there. :) Anyway if any other Slean fans are at the Tori Meet & Greet I'm expecting to be there. Say hi if you see me! (I'll make my presence known...) kyall ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V4 #127 *******************************
