I will most likely be there as she wants me to take pictures for her. here is another picture for reference sake http://www.indievoice.com/cgi-local/m2?db=melissa_mcclelland Cheers Rannie http://www.rannieturingan.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 10:53:55 -0400 From: "Kelly Goodlad" Subject: Re: mclelland and slean? >Actually Melissa's look has been in constant flux over the past year i >think she is still trying to find her image.... > Heehee...I always think it's funny having to 'find' your image...like, if you're being yourself, isn't that enough? Of course then, some normal people change their image from day to day, and that's confusing in the biz. >here is another picture for reference sake >http://www.indievoice.com/cgi-local/m2?db=melissa_mcclelland Wow, that's freaky...she almost looks like the OTHER Sarah here (Harmer). "Craziness that is you!" -- JS ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 20:06:41 -0400 From: "Gina" Subject: OT: Recent Albums A lot of the albums that I've been looking forward to this year have been disappointing. Anybody having a similar experience? I only found a few songs on the latest Jonatha, Dar, and Ani albums that interested me. I recently listened to the latest Garbage album (usually interesting, if less-than-clever), and it's REALLY bad. It sounds like they had it produced by the same guy who does Backstreet Boy albums. The same cheesy studio effects were in it. I just finished listening to Jennifer Paige's new album, and it's just as bad! Her first album was kindof poppy, but at least you knew she was an adult (with some musical ability) .. this one wears the studio like Tammy Fay wears her makeup. The new Heather Nova (though I'm not all the way through it, yet) "South" is thus far unimpressive. "Strange Little Girls" is somewhat promising, specifically "Real Men" and "Time". But there's been nothing comparable to "You Were Here" or "Blue Parade". Anyway, I just wanted to vent a little. Thank you. Anybody having a similar experience? I only found a few songs No! I've had a wonderful fall of albums. Bjork - Vespertine. Amazing. Simply amazing. BUY IT! Hawksley Workman - The Delicious Wolves. My brother owned this; I borrowed it and copied it to the computer. Noticing that Sarah Slean sang backup on two of the songs was a big selling factor to even listen to it (having never heard his work.) He's a great artist and the album is pretty darn good. The first listen was like hearing Blue Parade for the first time... It's very interesting.... Jamiroquai - 2001: a funk odyssey. Groovy, definitely one of their better albums out of the 5, and I really like the songs. Amazing to rollerblade to. the cranberries - Wake Up and Smell the Coffee. Dissapointing on the first few listens but it grew on me. It's not their best work; it's probably actually their worst. It's still worth getting, though, because they are a good group. Maxwell - Now. Definitely the most dissapointing of my new albums, but still not bad compared to mainstream fluff. It's rich and deep, but much more "accessible" R&B compared to the last album, "Embrya," which was so great I can't begin to describe it. I haven't let myself listen to Tori's "Strange Little Girls" yet, I'll be buying it first thing on Tuesday. I do have three of the tracks on a minidisc somewhere but that's all I allowed myself to hear. I am holding out patiently. I'm having a good fall for albums; what others should I hear? (of course I want Ms. Slean's 2nd LP badly but I guess I can wait... SOMEHOW... for it.) kyall ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 21:12:46 -0400 From: Brad Fox Subject: Re: Recent Albums I've never posted before, but this post made me wonder again something i've always wanted to know - anyone a Radiohead fan? You're not, and in fact her cover of Climbing Up the Walls is one of the things that sold me on Ms. Slean. Nobody has mentioned it yet, but the "Slean Zine" as I've been calling it was simply adorable and wonderful. I will probably send Sarah my zine in return. :) marlatiara ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Famous people wearing my tiara: http://www.marlatiara.com *updated 08/04/01 - a whole new look! __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? Hmmm... so far I think my fall in music has been pretty good. Never heard of Jonatha Brooke before Steady Pull and I love the whole album through and through. By the latest Dar are you refering to her live cd? Haven't heard it yet. I really liked The Green World though. Spring Street is one of my all-time favorite songs. Revelling/Reckoning was the first Ani CD I've purchased. I liked it... not a record I play over and over but I do enjoy it. Other stuff I've just purchased: Bjork's Vespertine - a lovely album that I don't listen to very much. I listened to it 3 or 4 times when I first bought it... but now I don't. I guess I just need more song-like songs. Maybe I'm just not in the mood right now. That happens sometimes Grant Lee Phillip's Mobilize - a great record. I can just listen to it all the way through. Some songs are weaker than others, but Spring Released and humankind are tops Radiohead's Amnesiac - I actually prefer this album to Kid A by a large margin. I think if you combined tracks from this with a few from Kid A you'd have a truly great album. Travis's The Invisible Band - I love Travis. I saw them when they opened for Dido and they are a great live band. I actually think I prefered the live show to the albums. It was ever so rockier. I love the vibe on the albums but the energy was intoxicating! Almost as much as when Dido sang Take My Hand. I prefer The Man Who, but TIB is a worthy follow-up I'm really looking forward to Tori, Heather, Garbage and the Cranberries albums. I dl'ed my own "Strange Little Boys" CD with all the original versions of the songs just for comparison when the album comes out. Heather's album sounds promising to me. Haven't heard much, and I do think I prefer the live version of Only Love to the album version, but I have to wait till I hear the album. I'm dissapointed about what you said about Garbage's new album. I really liked 2.0. I've dl'ed 5 songs from Wake Up And Smell The Coffee, but no more as I didn't want to spoil myself. I was underwhelmed by Bury the Hatchet, especially Delores newfound penchant for sing songy lyrics and bizarre phrasing (People are strager/ People deranged are) but it seems to have improved on the tracks from WUASTC I've heard. I love This is the day. I'm also looking forward to Natalie Imbruglia's new CD. It sounds like it could be interesting. I didn't even know that Jennifer Paige had a new album. When is it out? I wondered where she had gotten too. Man, this is long. Better stop. At first I thought... hmmm that's strange she has a song called Here With Me just like Dido. It wasn't unprecedented, as Plumb had a song called Here With Me. Then I noticed that she had a song called Stranded just like Plumb as well. I listened to the audio clip - and HWM and Stranded ARE the Plumb songs. I actually think I prefer Plumb's version. Check out Best of Plumb if you want to hear them, along with beatiful "Damaged." Plus... I forgot one other recent purchase I HAD to mention. Amy Correia - Carnival Love. I haven't enjoyed an album this much in a long time. It got a LOT of spins in my CD player. Jon P.S. - Has anyone ever heard of September 67? I was browsing through the $5.99 bins at Meijer and found their album "Lucky Shoe" and it's great! Never heard of them but the cover looked interesting and it was only 6 bucks and something told me I might like them and I did. The album from the mid-90's. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 22:16:18 -0600 From: "kyall glennie" Subject: Re: Recent Albums From: "Brad Fox" > I've never posted before, but this post made me wonder again something > i've always wanted to know - anyone a Radiohead fan? This is something I guess I accidentally left out; I just downloaded Amnesiac (I don't own any RH yet, but I promise to buy Amnesiac and Kid A.) I am absolutely in love with two songs on Amnesiac: packt like sardines in a crushd tin box, and like spinning plates. I found a reversed version of the latter on Audiogalaxy; it's one of the most haunting tracks. Kid A's first two songs (ESPECIALLY "Everything in its Right Place") are great too... I see why Sarah likes them so much. I now should go and find the original "Climbing..." and compare... I wonder if I'll like the Radiohead version because Sarah's... doesn't knock me away or anything. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. kyall ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V4 #108 *******************************
