Hi. I haven't recieved any messages for a while. Just wondering what's new. I thought I read somewhere that Sarah was going to be appearing in the first 5 episodes of that new show on Fox, but I didn't see her in the last one. I'm a new Sarah Slean fan (though becoming more and more rabid) and I found out about her in an odd way. I was looking up live Sarah Harmer stuff on the net and dl'ed her version of "My Invitation" and I fell in love with it. Later I noticed that Billboard listed an EP coming out so I dl'ed her version of My Invitation also Twin Moon and was hooked. After some searching, I finally got the EP at the local Sam Goody the day it was released (I balked at the $13 I had to pay for an EP, but I didn't grumble long) I was reading with some interest the comments made here about the EP. I just received Blue Parade in the mail today (I've also dl'ed the Universe EP since I don't have money to get it yet... but I will soon! I feel too guilty just downloading songs and not getting the album) so I could compare a bit better the sound of her new song vs. her older stuff. As "new ears" I honestly didn't notice a great divide between the newer stuff and the older stuff. The vocalization on songs like "Book Smart, Street Stupid" versus "Sweet Ones" versus "Twin Moon" just made it seem like Sarah was a vocalist who tried out different things depending on the song. I love every song on the Sarah Slean EP. I think the content of "BS,SS" is totally in keeping with the way she sings it. I sort of thought it was just an isolated thing. I do see how some people could find it annoying, but I thought it was a great sound. It did sound like an old lady or a drunken cabaret singer (yes, I've read the archives so I could catch up!) but I just thought Sarah is just getting into this character. If there are a lot of songs with the same "voice" I may be dissapointed since the track would lose some of it's uniqueness. But if the new version of "Eliot" and "Sweet Ones" are any indication, the album will be deverse. Sweet Ones almost reminded me of a song sung by Gwen Stefani. I thought that was pretty cool. The one place I can definitely see the difference is with Eliot. I like the version on the EP, as it does have a certain forcefullness and attitude that suits the song, but I do prefer the version on Blue Parade. One of the things that really struck me about Eliot, and the comments you've all made have echoed my concert, is that it sounds "too busy." In fact, I thought something might be wrong with my headphones the first time I heard it because something about it (I'm not an audiophile so I don't know if it's the mix or whatever) but it sort of overwhelmed my headphones whey it got to the chorus. Still, I've found a new favorite aritst. I can't wait for the new album to come out.
