Hi guys, What IS that song where Sarah's singing "...I've wept, I've overslept....blah blah...I'm on my feet...I'll be dancing soon..." It's the one I am really hoping is on the album and she played it at her last shows in TOronto. Help! Also, how do "St. Francis" and "Dark Room" go? After a minor confusion, I have the EP in my hands (and am presently recording Book Smart, Street Stupid to my minidisc through a CD-ROM because I don`t have a CD player.) Here in Quebec, they can`t read English names I guess, as HMV had put the EP until the name `Sarah Clean` -- your guess is as good as mine as to why they did that. After a minor confusion and me trying to use "my broken french" I was able to get my hands on the EP (for $16 CDN, no less... and that`s before tax!) Sarah`s voice sounds very much changed... but one listen so far of Book Smart, Street Stupid has me hooked...I can`t wait to hear the rest of the songs on the album. kyall _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2001 02:00:59 +0300 From: "Daniel Leza" Subject: Re: what is that one????? Hi Kelly, I'm quite sure the song you wanted on the CD is "Everything By The Gallon", I wanted it to be on too, but apparently it isn't... Here's some of the lyrics in St. Francis: "I had love in my hands...a kiss from that man (?), like a melody...my pride, still standing tall, but looking back, I wasn't brave at all, I wasn't brave at all" There's one song that she played in Rivoli, i'm not 100% sure if it's Dark Room, but the lyrics are something like: "Why do I hide, from you? Why do I play this game? Im telling myself let go, I know I know, I know....Paralyzed and freezing, truth has left me bleeding (?) something something...." I hope this helps! I work at a broadcasting company in Manhattan where we actually have some good record label connections. So, today I asked our librarian to call over to Atlantic Records (2 blocks away) for a copy of the EP. No one at the label seemed to have heard of her. So I walked over to Virgin Megastore after work to see if they had it. No only did they not, but it wasn't even listed in their system as a new or forthcoming release. Disappointing, to say the least. Maybe I can get my brother to bring a copy from London, ON when he comes to visit next week. :/ Dan >This will be Sarah's first release on Atlantic (Universe and Blue Parade >were independent releases), so it should be commercially available. >Generally speaking, it is a good idea to go into a record store at least a >week before an album is due out to make sure they'll be getting it in (if >the release is by someone relatively unknown). She did Sadie once in the last year that I recall... and I remember asking for Elaine once a while back, that's a while ago! I don't recall her playing Elaine in at least two years. And there's one song I don't think even _I've_ heard, "Hunter". I love those 'girl' songs. :-) They aren't very representative of where she is now though, but wow, they are marvelous. I bought the EP tonight on my way home from work and after a couple of listens I have to say that her voice sounds REALLY different on that "Book Smart, Street Stupid" song (also on the new "Eliot") and I can't really say I like it. She sounds like one of those old, old ladies singing hymns next to you in church -- voice all wobbly and stuff... I just don't get it. Is it trying to be vibrato? Or just an attempt at a "unique" sound? Was she deathly sick when recording this?? Or is it just something natural that is developing in her voice? I really hope it's something that will change back, because I couldn't really listen to Track 2 too much (despite the fact that I really like the lyrics and music) on the EP, her voice was annoying me too much!! When she goes up to the high, upper register, it's pretty and normal... but in the lower register, lookout! Ohhh makes me very sad. I really hope the new album doesn't all sound like this "new" voice. Maybe it was just the way it was recorded??? I don't know! (sorry to appear to be trashing Sarah here -- I really have great respect for her songwriting, her musicianship, and, until now, her voice... I was just really surprised with this new, strange sound coming from her -- did anyone else feel this way hearing it or am I alone???) - -jennpease ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2001 05:51:24 +0300 From: "Daniel Leza" Subject: Re: what is that one????? > > There's one song that she played in Rivoli, i'm not 100% sure if it's > > Dark Room, but the lyrics are something like: "Why do I hide, from you? > > Why do I play this game?
