I've said it before, but I must push this site again - Umbrella Music (www.umbrellamusic.com) is dedicated to the best of the Canadian indie pop scene, and the newly updated site is more streamlined and accessible than it used to be. There's some wonderful features up there right now, including a nice video interview with the Wild Strawberries about their wonderful new album, "Twist", plus a free download of a killer remix of their single "Wish". You can also see the entire video for their hit "Pretty Lip' if you haven't before... Lots of MP3s and videos from a bunch of excellent Canuck acts (check out the very pretty demo from Toronto duo Lost and Profound - they're now known as Red Suede Red and both musicians work at my [soon to be former ;)] office at NOW Magazine! :)), and Umbrella is working with other Canadian sites like MapleMusic.com and Chartattack.com to offer news and listings as well. Worth checking out to revisit some old favorites and discover some new ones! - - Tab :) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Although it actually came out last year, it was only available at shows and through Sarah's website until now, so hopefully the brilliant "You Were Here" will reach many more ears now. Look for Sarah touring throughout the U.S. in Sept./Oct., opening for the likes of Billy Bragg and Great Big Sea. Rounder's offering "You Were Here" for the criminally low price of $9.98 (U.S., but still ;)) at their website (http://harp.rounder.com/). It's the most beautiful record you will hear all year, I guarantee it. There are no words to describe it. :-) - - Tab :) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Management Subject: Kevin Fox... Hello folks - I just thought you might like to know that Kevin Fox ("sideman to the stars" - he's played with Ms. Slean, Sarah Harmer, Emm Gryner, Hayden, Andrew Cash, Kim Stockwood, etc... etc... etc...) is performing his own material at Ted's Wrecking Yard in Toronto on Tuesday, September 5th. His set begins at 10:30pm. Cover is $7. Kevin's been working on his debut solo album (of which I've had the huge pleasure of hearing 3 gorgeous tracks) which is very close to completion. I don't manage the guy, I just recognize his wonderful talent. Hope to see a bunch of you there. Best, Heather. PS - And Tab, couldn't agree more that Sarah Harmer's "You Were Here" is a work of brilliance! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 12:23:45 -0400 (EDT) From: "Julian C. I second this recommendation. It's unfortunate that I'm going to be out of town that day, but I highly recommend any and all available local folks to check him out... I've seen him twice at C'est What, and his material is just amazing. A very talented and classy guy. Speaking of C'est What, the very talented Lenni Jabour is doing a Sunday night residency there during the month of September, with a variety of local talent opening for her. Check out the September schedule, which has many good shows with the likes of Erin Smith, Cicero and Holly Go Lightly at www.cestwhat.com - - Julian [ Julian C. Sarah is playing with Megan Toohey, a local favorite (I've only seen her play bass for Jess Klein, but I am intrigued) so I'm looking forward to it. (And the Sleater Kinney show is the very next night, but that's another story for another time.) I'll probably bring my tiara, so if you see a girl holding a pink tiara, please come by and say hello :) I realized much too late that when I had Sarah S. wear it, Sarah H. was standing next to her. Oh well - just got the album and I am in love with Uniform Gray (which I heard her do in Northhampton as well). :) marla ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Famous people wearing my tiara: http://www.marlatiara.com (*updated 8/12/00 - Sarah Slean!)
