I got there a little late, and I missed half of his show. I guess I missed it. :( Hawksley is a force of nature. If you detect some subtle and not so subtle changes in some of Sarah's songs, i.e. some of them seem to have a bigger, more rock sound, that's the gentle influence (ha!) of Mr. Workman, who a little bird tells me is doing some of the production on the upcoming album... ...also look for a video for "High" real soon now. Its beautifully shot, Sarah looks very pretty in it... James. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 06:53:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Marla Tiara Subject: Hi I'm new Hi everyone. I just wanted to send a quick note introducing myself. My name is Marla and I've been a Sarah fan for a while. I saw her at the Northhampton Folk Festival this past weekend (Hi Meredith! Hi Woj!) and got to speak with her briefly - and she wore my tiara :) (In a nutshell I get people I admire to wear a little pink sparkly tiara - the Sarah picture isn't up on my site yet, but the link is below.) I think Sarah is absolutely amazing and I am thrilled to have discovered her music. And she's a sweetheart too! :) The best part was that when I got home from the festival a package was waiting for me - my order of Blue Parade, Universe, and a lovely autographed poster! I thought that was a nice coincidence. Anyway, that's me. Hi also to Ian and anyone else I already know on this list. It's taken me too long to subscribe :) Marla ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Famous people wearing my tiara: http://www.marlatiara.com (*updated 8/12/00 - Sarah Slean!) Management Subject: Rock-chester, New York Hello Navy Soupers! Thanks to all of you fine folks who made the Milestones show a night to remember for Sarah... I've read that you'd like to see Sarah in a different venue, and I'm wondering if you would want to give me the names/numbers/details about other venues in the area that you'd like to see her in. Rock-chester has spoken! Warm regards, Heather. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 11:02:30 -0700 From: "tara dean" Subject: Re: Sarah Slean Live hmm, I remember hearing one of Hawksley's songs, Tarantu-love or something? I dunno, it didn't really appeal to me.. but that's just my opinion. Then again, I wasn't listening very closely either, so I probably shouldn't be judging in the first place. :| Ohhh yeah, I remember hearing a bit about the shooting of the High video when I was on this list before. Will it be on in the US, or just MuchMusic? *crosses fingers* - -Tara "the dark is so deep, I've lost my way in this madness" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 14:13:03 -0400 From: "James McGarry" Subject: Re: Sarah Slean Live - ----- Original Message ----- From: "tara dean" To: ; Sent: Monday, August 14, 2000 2:02 PM Subject: Re: Sarah Slean Live > hmm, I remember hearing one of Hawksley's songs, Tarantu-love or something? I can see how he could be more of an aquired taste. > Ohhh yeah, I remember hearing a bit about the shooting of the High video when I was on this list before. Will it be on in the US, or just >MuchMusic? *crosses fingers* This one I'll leave for Heather to answer :-) I know it'll be shipped to Much, but VH1 or MTV, sorry, I just don't know. You'd also have to request it before it'll get any airplay at all. Much might show it once or twice, just to see if it generates a response,... likely in an off timeslot... if it gets some response, they'll play it more... sort of a snowball effect. But if you want to see it, write those stations, cuz, despite how it looks, they give you what you ask for ;-) James. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 11:38:48 -0700 From: "tara dean" Subject: RE: Rock-chester, New York I'm from outside Rochester, and I'm not extremely familiar with the city area, so I did a little research. These are the places I found that hold concerts & such. There's the Water St. Music Hall - I've never been here because it's a club, and is usually or always either 18+ or 21+, I'm not sure. I tried to see a Dido concert here, but I couldn't get in. (I'm 17) =( There's the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Arena (formally known as the War Memorial), but that's kinda big.. Kodak Theatre on the Ridge - I didn't know about this. What's it like? Auditorium Center - way too big. I saw Titanic the Musical here. heh Hey, How about SUNY Brockport? They hold different sorts of concerts here all the time, I'm sure. It's about 15 minutes away from my house. That would ROCK. I looked around the campus site, and the number for the Fine Arts' Building Box Office is (716) 395-ARTS. Very large, decent arrangement. Kinda cozy, but big enough for a decent-sized crowd. Also, pretty good acoustically. In my opinion, a good alternative to Milestones. They can be reached at 716-325-5600. > There's the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Arena (formally known as the War Memorial), but that's kinda big.. You could say that. I saw Titanic the Musical here. heh Agreed. Much more suited to musicals and very popular artists. Ani Difranco has a show there in a few months. (I think.) > Hey, How about SUNY Brockport? University of Rochester is a good call. They have quite a few auditoriums and such of a good size. http://www.rochester.edu Rochester Insitute of Technology might also work. http://www.rit.edu . > Well, do any other fellow Rochestarians have any ideas? Heather, a good place to try might be calling WBER. Joey Guisto and/or Chris Andrews would be very helpful. wber@monroe.edu and/or 716-381-4353.
