Management Subject: Re: Message from Pepper McGowan Hello Coz - I've received the message from Pepper regarding "Molly". It's too bad that her messages to me (management@sarahslean.com) and to our webmaster bounced back to her - I believe we've had a bit of trouble with our sarahslean.com server in the past few weeks (doesn't make me love them any less!). However, my fax number and personal e-mail address are available in both Sarah Slean albums, along with contact information for our booking agent. If additional steps were taken to get in touch with me, perhaps I could have helped diffuse this situation before Pepper was pushed into this obvious state of anger. I can't apologize for Pepper's receipt of "negative mail" from some of Sarah's fans, but I'm sure that she will understand that Napster is a completely non-regulated (not to mention copyright law ignorant) forum, and that as such, these types of mistakes are bound to happen. Perhaps those who were making the "Sarah version" of "Molly" available to the Napster masses didn't respond to her messages because they feared some type of retribution. By simply replying they may have felt they were opening the door to potential legal trouble. Such is the recent climate with Napster. Or perhaps they just don't understand how something of this nature could possibly affect anyone as strongly as it's affecting Pepper. All here in Sarah's camp fully sympathize with Pepper's concern over her work being mislabeled, and I hope she can sympathize with our concern over having someone else's work labeled as Sarah's. This is indeed a double-edged sword. I would hazard a guess that the people on this list (Navy Soup) would not be among those who sent negative mail to Pepper. They seem to have a strong grasp of Sarah's material and what is available on the net (via Napster, sarahslean.com or otherwise). I don't recall ever seeing mention of the "Sarah" song "Molly" here at Navy Soup, and I'm assuming that if Navy Soupers thought there was a new track available, they would have discussed it here to some degree - especially something that I would assume sounds different than anything else Sarah has recorded. I would hope that the folks here are much more sensitive to the creative process than to ignore the pleas of an artist. I can't possibly speak for everyone on this list, but I will certainly make a point of letting people know that "Molly" is a Pepper McGowan song, not a Sarah Slean song, should I come across it. I'm hoping the good people here will follow suit. I'm sure it would also be helpful if Pepper were to put an explanation about these recent happenings on her website. Perhaps those offended by the mislabeling would read it, be educated, and refrain from sending any further negative comments. Sincerely, Heather Pollock What? Here's the information I got from IHEG (the people who run several fine establishments in NoHo) in an emailing a couple of days ago: ############################## A Folk Festival In The Pines ############################## Saturday, August 12th @ The Pines Theater, Look Park, Northampton Featuring on the Mainstage: John Gorka, Patty Larkin, Cheryl Wheeler, David Wilcox, The Nields, Guy Davis, Mark Erelli, Melissa Ferrick, Vance Gilbert, Sarah Slean, Sarah Harmer, Tory Cassis and Danny Michel... Plus songswaps on the second stage all day long featuring Mainstage artists plus: Jess Klein, Jennifer Kimball, Pamela Means, Lori McKenna, Kris Delmhorst, Erin McKeown, Stephen Kellogg, Rani Arbo, Joe Keenan, Dana Robinson and Lui Collins. Tickets: $25 -- General Admission. Gates open at Noon, Music begins on the Mainstage at 1pm I haven't been able to find details of the day's schedule anywhere, but I would assume that Sarah (and Sarah, and Tory), being a bit less well known (at least in the Northampton area) than people such as Patty Larkin or The Nields will likely be on earlier rather than later. I've heard rumors of a "Canadian Song Swap" taking place on the second stage, and I'd hazard a guess that Sarah, Sarah and/or Tory will end up at that. I assume there will be some tickets left at the gate, but if you want to play it safe you can buy yours via phone at 1-800-THE-TICK Michael ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2000 21:19:19 -0400 From: "Chris C / iCE" Subject: RE: Nina Gordon on Leno tonight (Massive cross post hehhehe) RE: Nina Gordon I taped it, luckily, but I think I missed the end of the interview (oops). It's been released here for a few weeks now, same with the new album. AND, they both more or less are quite sucky. The Corrs, IMHO, has tailormade it for the US market and will try to breakthough there again, but, unfortunatly, they in doing this lost very much of the things I liked with them, the celtic background and such... with *I want folk, not Spice Girls pop* issues np: Brainpool/In a Box ===== ///HANZAN/// : Cult Of *e* Membership 42-23, *e*'s little Gothling, Co-Founder of The Morb Squad, proud member of the Twin-Soul Club.
