Or Tangled and Wild, or the Cherry Song. Any of those could be considered Suzie's love songs. Oh Susanna is quite famous for her murder ballads. Though I'm more partial to the historical stuff like "Jackson Wilson". Never tell Suzie this but I think I've figured a good harmonica part to this. > > Closer Walk With Thee (??? - gospel songs w/ Leslie and Sarah H) > > That's the name of the song, I think... Just a Closer Walk with Thee - she covered this on Songs for Clem, which is a wonderful little cover album that she and Jason Euringer did for Sarah's dad for Christmas. It is entirely charming. You must all get a copy of Ms. Harmer's latest as well... You Were Here. It features some of her best songs, Lodestar, man, that song ran through my head all last summer, its as watery as Jackson Pollack's Full Fathom Five and, it's just... wow! Weakend State, Don't Get Your Back Up, Coffee Stain, they are all yummy songs. James. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2000 14:44:54 -0500 From: "Christine Evans" Subject: Re: Saturday's LRC's - -----Original Message----- From: meredith To: navy-soup@smoe.org Date: Monday, March 27, 2000 9:00 PM Subject: Re: Saturday's LRC's Hey all, I too would have loved to hear Sarah do "Black Boys on Mopeds." But what else is knew? Meredith wrote: >(But we got to hear her do "A Case Of You" at my place, so hey. ) YOU DID????? Jealousy, jealousy! The two covers I'd like to hear Sarah do most are 'A Case of You' and Cohen's 'Famous Blue Raincoat.' (Has anyone heard Joni Mitchell's orchestrated version of ACOY on her new CD 'Both Sides Now'? It's great! But then again, it's Joni...) Lucky you that you got to hear Sarah, though... Meredith... I found some Veda Hille CD's at HMV... which one would you begin to start with? I found some Veda Hille CD's at HMV... which one would you >begin to start with? Well, it depends on what you like. Her first CD, _Path Of A Body_ is more piano-based and lush. _Spine_ is very sparse - she took up the 4-string tenor guitar and that's the main instrument (though there are still some stunning piano songs, including "26 Years", which is my favorite song by anyone, ever). _Here Is A Picture_ is a composition commissioned by the British Columbia dance troupe Mascall Dance to accompany a piece about the life of Emily Carr. It's absolutely brilliant. Her latest album, _You Do Not Live In This World Alone_ is similar in musical tone to _Spine_, but it's got a lot more electronic stuff going on in the production. It includes a song co-written with Oh Susanna, and guest vocals by Kinnie Starr. There are sound samples from all the albums on her web site, . (Of course, you could always avoid the problem and buy them all. ;) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2000 21:04:29 -0500 From: fartachu Subject: Re: Saturday's LRC's when we last left our heroes, James McGarry exclaimed: >You must all get a copy of Ms. Harmer's latest as well...
