If you were there, glad you could make it... if you didn't make it, you missed a great show. :) > (??? "Margaret Thatcher...") I don't know which song this was, but another line from it went something like: "England's not the magical* land of , , and roses** / it's the land of police who kill black boys on mopeds" * - might have been "mythical" ** - I couldn't make out the words. Sounded to me like, ". . . land of madame, george, and roses . . . " but I don't think that's right. Before she played it, I think she said Leif had requested it, so if Leif's out there, maybe she knows the name of the song? > (??? Oh Susanna song w/ Sarah Harmer) Again, no help from me as to the name, but Sarah Harmer referred to it as a "love song", instead of a murder ballad, or something to that effect. (And lord knows, I loved hearing her talk about "murder ballads" just after she was locked out of the house for a few minutes in the rain... :) > Closer Walk With Thee (??? - gospel songs w/ Leslie and Sarah H) That's the name of the song, I think... Anyway. The show was amazing, and it was great getting to hear a couple other songs I'd never heard before. And I was remarkably impressed with Sarah Harmer & Feist. I'd never even heard of them before they showed up at my house on Saturday, but I really liked their music. For those of you who made it, hope you had as good a time as I did. :) Kevin - -- Kevin Pease kbpease@concentric.net ICQ UIN: 3106063 AOL IM: kbpease ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Mar 2000 20:50:27 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: Saturday's LRC's Hi! "England's not the mythical land of Madame George and roses it's the home of police who kill black boys on mopeds and I love my boy, and that's why I'm leaving I don't want him to be aware that there's anything but grieving" That's Sinead O'Connor's "Black Boys On Mopeds", which appeared on her second album, _I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got_. IMHO it's the best thing she's ever done. I would've loved to hear Sarah do that one live! (But we got to hear her do "A Case Of You" at my place, so hey. ) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Mar 2000 19:57:47 -0600 From: "Amy" Subject: RE: Saturday's LRC's Kevin Wrote: > I don't know which song this was, but another line from it went > something like: > "England's not the magical* land of , , and > roses** / it's the land of police who kill black boys on mopeds" > * - might have been "mythical" > ** - I couldn't make out the words. I would have LOVED to hear/see Sarah sing that! It's a great song! That's "I don't want him to be aware that there's ANY SUCH THING as grieving." Jeez.
