I have 2 questions. First of all, is there music available for Pie Jesu? I'd love to learn it in my voice class! It's so beautiful! Secondly, what is the name of the 2 other tracks on Universe? I just got the CD for my birthday and I love it! I was going to get Blue Parade but it wasn't in, so HMV is ordering it for me. I can't wait! You're not going to believe this, but :-) I was just searching for information on Pie Jesu yesterday and ran into a company selling music for it: http://www.eddingsmusic.com/organ.html http://www.piano-pal.com/pvpq.htm >Secondly, what is the name of the 2 other tracks on Universe? Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the squre holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glofiy or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them, because they change things. They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crzy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who'll do it. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2000 22:00:12 GMT From: "Kristy McCourt" Subject: Re: Pie Jesu and a question Hi Kristilyn Howdy girl! I also love 'I Do' (I think thats the name..). Not to mention "LYW". Amazing material, I only hope it makes the next disk, or some kind of Live, or B-sides disk. Or something! Are they going to post any other songs on SS.com? I for one would love to hear the Sjanie.M. version of "Blue Parade". :)Sophie Oh, and my 2 cents on that review posted: I am neither a Tori Amos nor a Sarah McLachlan fan, though I am familiar with much of their music. Perhaps the only similarity these women share, IMHO, is a difference; a unique vocal style. I've waded through gobs of mp3's on mp3.com which they've compared to my favorite songstresses, enough to be able to say that a descriptive, honest review of music (w/o shoving it into some arbitrarily named "catagory"), is much more a help than comparisons. Any way, since there has been talk of Sarah's super-great (but aren't they all?) song, "Sweet Ones", does anyone know the lyrics? I'm trying to arrange it for piano (through the keyboard attatched to the computer! New toy for me!) but all I know is the chorus. The rest of the time I go, "Blah, blah, something... that line, something" et cetera. I'm also attempting 'Duncan' and have a similar problem. So if any ardent lyric-scribes have caught Sarah's 'Sweet Ones' and/or 'Duncan', I would be very appreciative! And, since I have yet to express my opinion on the BP review (succintly, since I know that I'm late in doing it and that's LONG over... bear with me): - - comparisons per say are not bad, but basing an entire review on a comparison seems just a *trifle* elementary. - - our gentle reviewer obviously did not make the connection between 'Eliot' the song and Eliot the poet. - - our gentle reviewer obviously did not understand that 'Before Your Time' was about Glenn Gould (although there is no obvious reference, so I won't crucify too harshly). - - maybe it's just me, but Sarah's "Playing Cards with Judas" and Tori's "God" certainly don't sound alike to me. Meredith wrote: >>Well, at least female singers who play piano are now ubiquitously being >>dismissively compared to Tori. It used to be they were all dismissively >>compared to Kate Bush. Thank you! Once again, comparisons are not bad, because they generate ideas and interest. But if we're going to play the bitter-reviewer comparison game, we revert to comparing Tori to Sinead O'Connor, Sinead O'Connor to Kate Bush, Kate Bush to Joni Mitchell, Joni Mitchell to Bob Dylan, and any other crazy combinations that the reviewer can come up with. Everyone is great on their own level. This is just like the endless art comparison to Andy Warhol. "Good... but stop trying to be Warhol. Because Warhol's better." So then... according to that, I guess art STOPPED with Warhol? Yeah, right - nice try. And one more thing: anyone who calls Kurt Swinghammer's guitar playing, "pointless" has obviously never picked up a guitar. ANY way, sorry for the length of this. Reminder: if you know the lyrics to "Sweet Ones" or "Duncan", please enlighten me! Hello All, I finally got around to scanning three of the photos I took of Sarah at C'est What? where Sarah performed as part of Canadian Music Week. If you're interested, you can look at them on the Sarah portion of my webpage, which is at: http://www.angelfire.com/id/thepiano/sarahslean.html If you have trouble with that link just go to: http://nevermind.thesociety.net and click on the link titled 'In Praise of Sarah Slean.' A WARNING: I took these photos with an ordinary, point-and-click auto (an Olympus Jr., if it gets any more patronizingly degrading than that :-) ), and hence they are far from beautiful photographs. Be kind! The flash for my trustworthy battleaxe manual camera is broken, so I couldn't take good photos at the CMW concert. Sorry! Love you all, - - Christine Evans :-) evans_ent@msn.com http://nevermind.thesociety.net PS - I also took some photos of Tory Cassis, but haven't added the 'Tory' portion of my website yet. Look for those soon! (He looks goooooooood :-) ). ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V3 #51 ******************************
