Well, at least female singers who play piano are now ubiquitously being dismissively compared to Tori. It used to be they were all dismissively compared to Kate Bush. My, how time passes. I freely admit to describing Sarah Slean's music to "what would happen if Sarah McLachlan could play the piano like Tori Amos." It has proved an apt comparison and has helped turn people on to her music who might not have paid attention because they had never heard her name before. That review, however, is a great example of how *not* to review a CD. Comparing something on a molecular level, plus letting one's personal biases cloud their opinions makes for a very weak review. You end up learning more about the reviewer than the album being reviewed in that case, and that's really not very useful at all. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V3 #49 ******************************
