I am slowly cross posting this to all the mailing lists I am on.. too lazy to write something original to every list... Hey Guys Okay this email is a little self-indulgent, hmmm what can I say, I am a LEO, and I love the attention (grin) be forewarned this email is long too. As many of you know I took this weekend off and had myself a little vacation. My end destination became Montreal, sorry to everyone who invited me to their city to fumble, sorry I couldn't make it, especially to Montreal to see Tara, which was very much a possibility, which I decided not to take, besides I have been fortunate to see Tara a number of times this year already. My trip to Montreal was really fun though, believe it or not I went with my ex-boyfriend, Frank, and by the end of it we both came out alive and didn't kill each other (grin) I had a lot of fun, re-discovering Montreal and checking out the Gay-ghetto in Montreal. On Saturday and Sunday Night, we checked out one of Montreal's newest gay clubs, UNITY and had an AMAZING time, my oh my were there a lot of cute boyz. I had a good taste of Montreal, BUT at the same time, I didn't get a taste of Montreal, if you know what I mean (take mind out of gutter rannie) On Sunday evening, we also went to the Casino and I had won 130 dollar on slots in the first 2 mins of being in the place. Frank was still literally at the bank machine line when I won. All in all it was a very good trip. On Monday we drove back to Toronto. On monday night I was supposed to go out on a Kareoke date with a guy, Denis, but he cancelled on me due to some family emergency. On Tuesday I slept all day and then went to Chapters (book and music store, kinda like Borders Books in the US) On Friday my boss had given me $125 in Chapters gift certificates, so needless to say I went crazy at Chapters. Although there were a few books I wanted to get, I opted to get a number of CDs instead along with a Chapter membership card, which entitles me to a 10% discount. My cd purchase included the following CD Jewel (the new Christmas album) Okay i don't care what people think about Jewel, I like her and every year I like to pick up at least one or two new Christmas cds, so this is my first Christmas cd purchase of the season. (Starbucks also has a Christmas cd compilation that I may end up picking up along with a Charlie Brown Christmas cd that I might get as well. I also saw that Rosie O'Donell Christmas cd, has anyone heard or bought this one? I am thinking about getting it) Natalie Merchant Live. Yep I picked this one up as well, pretty good stuff, ya I know I probably should have held off, considering I have a fairly good, shall we say LIVE recording from a very good friend of ours. Anyways I caved in and got it anyways. The Corrs Unplugged. The second of 3 live cds that I picked up. I just love the Irish, and although I hadn't originally planned on getting it, when I say it and found out it was OUT, I had to add it to my collection, Very good cd. I believe it is from a MTV Europe unplugged session, and they play a few new songs and a cool REM cover. Alanis Morrisette Unplugged. Okay this is the 3rd live cd that I caved into. Yeah I admitted like Alanis too. Call me evil if you like, but according to Kevin Smith, Alanis is god, how could I go wrong? Ashley MacIssac - Helter's Celtic: This is an awesome cd, especially the first track, which has an electronic dance feel to it. If you liked his first cd, then you will definitely like this one. This is one talented young man, who plays a mean fiddle (kinda like Julian Dunn) except, good ol Ashley plays on my team. (whoo hoo) Harry Connick Jr (I forget the title, but it is his new one) Okay it's very much a back to basic album for Harry, steering back to his jazzier roots. This album is awesome, and is more reminicent of his earlier work. This cool cat was the one who really hooked me on to jazzier types of music. Women and Songs 3: Okay I bought this really for ONE song, no not the Sarah McLachlan Song, but the Wild Strawberries/Robert Michaels song. It is an awesome song, with the excellent vocals of Roberta from the Wild Strawberries and the amazing guitar talent of Robert Micheals. The song is called, "Wrong To Let You Go" apparently their is also a french version of the song which will be appearing on the first FRENCH version of the popular Women and Songs collection (La Chanson au feminin) Of course Women and Songs 3 also includes the talents of Ms. McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Madonna, Cher, Jewel, Annie Lennox, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Merchant, The Cranberries and many other Lilith favorites. 18 estrongen tracks all in all. My last purchase was The new Chemical Brothers CD: surrender - I had heard this cd in the car ride up to Montreal, thanks to Frank. I had meant to by the cd when if first came out , but haven't had the chance to. But having the gift certificates, It gave me an excuse to give this amazing electronic masterpiece. Also in my bag was the new Beastie Boys Anthology, which I had bought for my sister Chelle, maybe she will review it for you all, or maybe she won't. GRIN On the cutting block: I almost picked up the Cher Collection of hits, along with An Ella Fitzgerald cd (although Ella has so many CD's I don't know where to start, all I know is that I love her stuff, anyone have any Ella CD collection starter tips for me?) In Other News. The last Issue of BROWN SUGAR (a filipino youth Magazine) will be having a party on December 10th. The magzaine will have a HUGE feature on Emm Gryner which will be featuring pictures by yours truly. For those of you in Toronto, you will be able to pick up your issue at Tower Record downtown, mid December) The magzine, which will be changing names in the new year, will also be planning to cover An Aquezada Christmas. In December, things are gonna be pretty busy in the work front, with a number of projects to complete before the new year. (hmm that only gives me a couple of weeks considering our office is closed from Christmas to the monday after New Years. Also In December, aside from the Aquezada Christmas show, I urge people to check out the Planet of The Loops night at Holy Joes, the first one being tomorrow night and the second one being December 9th I believe, which would feature the looping and electronic talents of Ken Harrison (of the Wild Strawberries) among other local talent. Towards the end of Month, many of the Philly Locals know that I will be making my East Cost tour to Philly and surrounding areas between Boxing Day and New Years. I am hoping to see, Shannon, Susan, Denise, Matty (BIG HUGS), Whitney and maybe the Twins. If anyone else wants to join in the fun, lemme know. Things are gonna get really busy, really quickly around here for me, with a number of holiday related events and parties, so I don't know how active I will be on the various mailing lists that I am on. So I will say now, Thank you to EVERYONE for making this such a wonderful year for me, both filled with ups and downs and new opportunities and experiences. Thanks for all the memories, the friendships, the love and the pictures. You guys are awesome. Rannie Happy Holidays and all that fun stuff... 1999 has been quite a year for me. And for most of you too I believe. It is quite amazing that a year ago, I didn't or barely knew most of you. Now I don't know where I would be without knowing you. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Dec 1999 00:19:22 -0500 From: Terence Sin Subject: Re: a bit of an update on ME and more > along with a Charlie Brown Christmas cd that I might get as well. I also The Charlie Brown disc is great. Vince Guaraldi is a pretty cool piano player, and this is the disc that spawned all the covers of "Christmas time is here." Diana Krall did an amazing version on her Christmas EP from last year. The EP is out of print, but if you look around you can still find it. > with An Ella Fitzgerald cd (although Ella has so many CD's I don't know > where to start, all I know is that I love her stuff, anyone have any Ella > CD collection starter tips for me?) _Ella at Duke's Place_ and _Ella in Rome_ are what most people pick as the essential records. Personally I like _Ella Abraca Jobim_ a lot. Most people hated this disc because it was made at the end of her career and she was way past her prime, but Jobim's music is much more interesting to me. ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V2 #178 *******************************
