So... Que pasa, people?! On the heels of Julian's no-shows at C'est What (for Tammy RayBould) post, here's another. Roberto and I were the *only* ones there last night at the Cicero (amazing local singer-songwriter, friend of Emm Gryner's, on her Dead Daisy label, for those of you who don't know) gig aside from his friends. We kept waiting for someone, *anyone* we knew to show up, but to no avail. Not good, people! You missed a good show - as scheduled opener Rayanne was sick (feel better!), one of Dylan's friends, who only gave his name as "Jonathan", played a solid set that sounded to me like a cross between Jeff Buckley, Duncan Sheik, and Dylan himself (very similar-type delivery). Pretty good - I was impressed. Then Dylan (I feel silly referring to him as "Cicero" ;-)) started with a fabulous "The Price of Eagle Hats and Spacesuits", followed by a nice take on local peers Red Autumn Fall's "Heaven Too". Then he was joined by his friend Bev (some of you may remember her from the first Northern Sounds gig at the Free Times last year) on vocals for a few songs. She's got a lovely, keening, old-school country-type of voice, and sounds absolutely amazing with Dylan. I barely even missed Emm on "The Wind and the Rain". ;-) Well, okay, I *did* (in fact, it seemed weird that she wasn't there - but seeing as she's hobnobbing with the likes of Mr. Ziggy Stardust himself, I guess I can cut her some slack. As for the rest of you... ;-P), but whatever. ;-) So anyhow, this little lecture is being crossposted to get more people out to the rest of Cicero's residency gigs - there isn't one next week, it being Thanskgiving and all, but he'll be there for the other two Monday nights following. So... come, dammit! He's great, and he certainly deserves more support than last night's sorry turnout. Besides, everyone at C'est What is nice, and I think the bar staff were crying in their beer over the practically empty room... ;-) We now return you to your regularly scheduled list chatter... ;-) - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Oct 1999 00:16:17 -0400 From: roberto Subject: RE: Cicero last night - A Lecture... [tab sed] Roberto and I were the *only* ones there last night at the Cicero [] word! we represented! [tab sed:] who only gave his name as "Jonathan", played a solid set that sounded to me like a cross between Jeff Buckley, Duncan Sheik, and Dylan himself (very similar-type delivery). [] interesting.. im pretty sure he said his name was jonathon sheik... pretty sure. i thought he was great. amazing guitar player. he was doing some VERY complex stuff for an acoustic and i dont think he made any mistakes at all for the whole set. [tab sed] on vocals for a few songs. She's got a lovely, keening, old-school country-type of voice, and sounds absolutely amazing with Dylan. I [] i've seen her a couple times (i think she sang at holy joe's too) and she said that she sang with emm once as well though i missed that show. i never noticed the country twang before but it was definitely there last night. "WHY DO YOU analyze it all?" she sounded really strong, she needs to record an album i think. she has a boyfriend by the way..if you didnt think she was cute well she is. dylan is infatuated with her sister i think. [tab sed] support than last night's sorry turnout. Besides, everyone at C'est What is nice, and I think the bar staff were crying in their beer over the practically empty room... ;-) [] yeah they wont be as quick to offer the nights to ppl like dylan in the future if the room is empty every time they do. rayanne should be there on the 18th.. im gonna try and get the night off work. be there or be somewhere else! and now back to you. ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V2 #134 *******************************
