One new date I can tell you about now is this Wednesday, Sept 22 in Toronto. Sarah was invited by Renann to play at her "Raw Wednesdays" show at the Rivoli. This'll be a special solo show, so come on out and support Sarah, all you cool soupers! This'll be a special >solo show, so come >on out and support Sarah, all you cool soupers! I meant to post about that show since seeing Sarah's name among the lineup in the Rivoli listings ad in NOW on Thursday. The Acoustic Wednesdays at the Riv are turning out to be quite the "buzz" gigs in the local music community - every week singer-songwriter Renann manages to round up some incredible local talent, and even more of their peers turn out to watch and show their support. I think it was NOW's Kim Hughes who wrote some time ago that if the Rivoli was ever levelled on a Wednesday night, it'd take most of Toronto's singer-songwriter contingent along with it. ;-) Usually the way the evening works is that each performer gets to play a few songs acoustically solo, and then sometimes all the acts get together and jam a bit. It's a very free-form, relaxed type of vibe, and I totally recommend everyone try to go down and catch one of these shows sometimes. - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Sep 1999 15:55:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Bloo Subject: Re: new tour dates Julian: man, we HAVE to fix the autobounce filters on navysoup. Hey, folks... I'm currently suffering what I call "gig withdrawal" now that I'm back at school - don't have the time to go to too many shows during the schoolweek, but I've gotten so used to going to some amazing gig or another almost every day over the summer that it's killing me now. ;-) So I was looking through the weekly local listings, and there are some amazing small shows happening in town this week that I thought I'd share so at least *some* of you can go check them out even if I can't. ;-P - - Dayna Manning comes out of hiding ;) to join the Bluebird North singer-songwriter workshop/showcase tomorrow night (Sept. 21) at the Rivoli, along with soul diva Ivanna Santilli, snarky singer-songwriter Arlene Bishop, and guitar legend David Wilcox. Bluebird North is a loose collective of artists that get together at these periodic shows to try out new material, jam, and bounce ideas off each other. It's a great way to see some of these artists in a more intimate setting, so go! ;) In more Dayna info, apparently she's been working on demos in L.A. with The Tea Party's Jeff Martin (?!). Don't ask me. ;-) - - Another local singer-songwriter who's been missing in action lately, Lenni Jabour, is part of yet *another* group of singer-songwriters (good gracious, what's in the water in T.O.?! ;-)) getting together at Ted's Wrecking Yard *tonight* (Sept. 20) - things kick off at 9:30 with an incredible lineup that includes Lenni, Tory Cassis, and Howie Beck. - - May as well mention the final singer-songwriter night while I'm at it - - Renann hosts Raw Wednesdays at the Rivoli with guests Sarah Slean (!!), Lindy, Jeremy Robinson and more. (Sept.22) - - A gal who's friends with *all* of the above ;), Mia Sheard, is back with a new album, "Reptilian", which she unveils at Ted's Wrecking Yard on Tuesday (Sept. 21). Other shows of note: - - excellent American folkster Catie Curtis at the Horseshoe tonight (Sept. 20) - - alt-popsters By Divine Right with Bodega do a matinee at 2 pm on Sept. 26 at the Rivoli on the heels of a show at the Horseshoe the night before (Sept. 25) with guests Blurtonia. - - High-energy Guelph indie band Corduroy Leda (they're fun, check 'em out) play Ted's Wrecking Yard Thursday Sept. 23. - - And finally, Ottawa alt-popsters Starling make a rare appearance also at Ted's (go, Yvonne! ;)) on Friday the 24th. Whew! Gigs galore! I've just planned everyone's week for them. ;-) But seriously, folks, do yourself a favor if you're in/around the Toronto area and *do* check out one or two of these shows. The depth of the local scene never fails to amaze me, and it's weeks like this when every single night has several great shows going on that really say a lot. - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Sep 1999 23:19:34 GMT From: "Shawna Caspi" Subject: Re: (OAC) Dayna M., Lenni J., Mia S. surface in T.O.! I really wanted to go both of them but the former clashed with the Scrappy Bitch Tour show and I had an Ultimate game during the latter. >- And finally, Ottawa alt-popsters Starling make a rare appearance also at >Ted's (go, Yvonne! ;)) on Friday the 24th.
