Each song, however, has an element that adds to the album. Bonnie's song, My invitation, Before your time (This song is half major! Wow!) all boast the unmatchable power behind her ballads; Playing cards with Judas is an interesting song -- stylistically unique from the rest of the album, she intrigues us with a very tidy poppish-sounding tune. It's a fun song.. Habit and High both exploit the playfulness and the upbeatness of a dancing primary piano supported by clouds of drums and non-piano sounds.. -- then the piano itself almost hinting at alternative piano style. Breaking into the chorus, order is brought to the 'chaos' with a steady backing drum and the vocals and piano taking center stage. Twin Moon, Narcolepsy Weed -- the pace of these songs allow you to digest the words, translating language into emotion; both absolutely gorgeous songs. And Awake Soon -- mystical.. scary almost how close to perfect the a cappella is of two voices -- left hand and right hand. It's sad that its exact effect won't be duplicated in concert.. Finally, Blue Parade -- combining both perfect chord progressions and a crying piano, exploring the wonderful range of Sarah's voice.. Good thing the album didn't end off on this song. It would leave so many people sad... Brave is also wonderful -- sometimes simplicity delivers it best. And there it is. A 100% on-topicified email. I wasn't too into habit when I first got it but now its definately a must-play, same with high. I like the fact that its not all beautiful love songs, because there's another side of emotion that needs to be addressed. I like High because its a bit calculating. (insurt naughty giggle). Habit is also sortof manipulative. And I like that. Its human. It's a part of the beautiful whole. When I first got the CD, the songs were; Playing Cards, Bonnie's Song, & BYT. Now I listen to those three, plus Habit, High, Plue Parade, & Madaline. All in all its a very well constructed album, and best as a whole (but for those of us who have precious little time to ourselves :{ ) Thats my inputs. ~Sophie soph@mail.triton.net - -----Original Message----- From: Egoteq / iCE To: navy-soup@smoe.org Date: Tuesday, September 14, 1999 9:34 PM Subject: RE: blue parade, the song > > What, actual Sarah content? The swells, the subtlety, the little snips of hommages, the lyrics, the intent, the way she goes into her happy place while playing, the way the song is happy and sad and whistful all at once. > have a press blackout in effect or something), but the Sun's critic says > Jewel is "a revelation" (I love her and all, but methinks he exaggerates a They've always liked Jewel though. Lots of photos in Wow. That is positive for the Globe! I mean, I don't think they've had anything nice to say about a movie since the last Fassbinder flick. > I've seen so far, Jason ("90210") Priestly's documentary on the Barenaked He's funny. I was wondering if it would be OK for me to make a page of your quotes about Sarah's Blue Parade for my web site (http://www.ecalos.com). I already have a Spotlight section on her but would like to have review of the new CD. Since my copy has not arrived in my mailbox yet, I cannot write one first hand. So if any of you would like to send me a sentence or two I will make a review page on my site with all the quotes. (Let me know if you would like me to use your email name, your real name or anonymous too) You can send them to: ecalos@ecalos.com or reply to this message! I would just go back and grab some from what you guys have already said, but I don't want to use anything without your permission.
