Hello All, Unfortunately, unlike many of you probably are, I am not a prolific attender of CD release parties. And, like many of you very excited (but probably more experienced) Soupers, I am eagerly awaiting the release party at Ted's Wrecking Yard on August 12th. But, in order to a) get there and b) ensure myself comfort in both being AND getting there, I'm going to have to ask a few questions. Question the First. Since the doors at Ted's are at 7:00 pm, my mum has demanded that she drive me to and from the occasion, as she's scared beyond all else that I'll die. (As she probably should). So, my first question is, WHERE is Ted's Wrecking Yard? 549 College Street, yes, I understand that much. I am ashamed to admit that I've lived in Toronto all my life and never entered this establishment. Can someone who knows their T.O. Orientation better than I do give me some vague directions that a driving mother would be able to understand? Maybe a big landmark or two? That would be GREATLY appreciated, for anyone who can. Question the Second. As mentioned, I've never been to one of these things before. To confuse me, the event has a far more important title than most Sarah Slean concerts, (which are normally aptly named "Sarah Slean Concerts") What kind of attire does a CD release party demand? (Not trying to sound like a giggling and anxious-to-dress-up teenage misfit here, but it would be kind of funny if I were to show up in grubs and discover that everyone is dressed quite nicely. Or vise versa - I'm not going to risk my safety in a skirt if everyone else is wearing their normal clothes). So, any insight into some vague kind of dress code (is clothing REALLY required? :-) ) would also be greatly appreciated. Those are my two basic questions. I will channel all my love and thanks to whomever answers them. Is everybody getting psyched up for the release parties??? Yes, yes. It is time. Oh, and as an aside. Considering the great taste on this list, most of you will probably already be more than aware... while I was in Oxford, I was introduced to a pretty cool musician. (Well, to her music, not to her). Her name's Patty Griffin, the CD is "Flaming Red." It's a whole year old so I'm most likely waaay behind everybody else's expertise, but I thought I'd mention it any way. She's got some beautiful songs on the CD, although they do often sink into pop-iness. Thought I'd just mention that, in case anyone's interested. Love you all (no, really - I swear!) - - Christine :-) evans_ent@msn.com http://www.angelfire.com/id/thepiano/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Aug 1999 06:31:18 -0400 From: Tim Miller Subject: Re: Regarding a certain upcoming release party. oh yes. i was wondering the two very same things... (directions and dress attire) but i hadn't even known that the doors would open at 7pm, so at least i'm not as far behind as i was. ;) if someone could help Christine they'd be helping me out simultaneously. and i think that would be keen. getting ready for four sarah shows in five days. phew. not only will she become my "most observed musical artist in a live setting", but she'll be doing it really damn quickly! ;) hope to meet some of you on thursday and even more of you on friday and saturday... Basically if you can find your way to College and Bathurst you're almost there, just go west on college about 3 blocks and start looking for a sign that looks like a multicoloured barcode on the north side of the street. That's the sign for the Barcode, which is downstairs from Ted's WY. Below is the URL for the Ted's Wrecking Yard page on the Toronto.com website. I suggest taking a look at it, it has a picture of the place which is helpful because as I said it's a bit hard to find, because the sign is kind of subdued. There's also a link for a street map of the surrounding area. http://www.toronto.com/E/V/TORON/0020/43/82/ >What kind of attire does a CD release party demand? Required attire is a corporate power-suit, googly-eye glasses, and old-style roller-skates with little bunnies painted on them. Bonus points if you're wearing a big inflatable duck around your waist. However, if you don't have those things, I think pretty much anything goes at these things (I do hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong). There will be people dressed up and then there will be slobs like me. Sarah did have one show where people had to dress up though. It was a special "pyjama party" show Sarah played a while back. It was kind of fun, it was the first time I'd ever worn my big floppy kermit the frog slippers in public. Anyone else getting excited? Who's all coming, anyways? Stand up and be counted! I'm really excited about seeing all you folks. There are people coming in from all over... folks from NY, Michigan, the west coast, the east coast (NYC), we'll even have someone from Sweden. I personally will be making the arduous trek up the street. Some of you (James, Gian, Tab, Julian, Rannie...) I get to see all the time, but it's always good to see you guys... Some of you I haven't seen in a long time (Dan, Leif) so it'll be a reunion of sorts, and lots of you (Allyson, Brian, Tim, Adam, Chris, Christine, etc. etc.) I've just never yet had the opportunity to meet. But I will soon, and I find it all pretty darn exciting! So look for me, folks. I'll be the one wearing the big inflatable duck... I am from the Toronto area and will be at the shows on Thursday and Saturday. however I have to leave kinda early from the Thursday show, because I am picking my friend from the UK up from the airport at around 10:30 ... but anyways.... I just wanted to clear up the directions for ya If you go to College and Bathurst... Ted Wrecking Yard is just past the FIRST set of lights west of Bathurst . Ted Wrecking yard is on the SOUTH side of college < not the Northside> right beside a shiastu clinic or something. You will see the barcode and there is a door right beside the barcode entrance that leads up the stairs to Ted's. I hope this helps.
