Is there actually a song called Blue Parade? I don't know why, but I just wanna know?? ;-) Or has this topic already been covered on the list? and I'm just taking up unnecessary bandwith creating one of those one-post digests to torture Julian. *grin* Hey, maybe we could have another list "short story" contests to explain the title. Although I don't think anything could top that "kitten gristle" thing from before. rambling, Mari ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jul 1999 01:01:50 -0400 (EDT) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: Blue Parade On Fri, 16 Jul 1999, Mari Wilson wrote: > was wondering - does anyone know the significance of the title? I would describe it as pleasantly haunting or sadly sanguine or maybe beautiful in a beautiful sort of way. I still like Elliot better though, its more fun. The new album will rock. I haven't heard what's on it yet, but all the new songs are at least very good. > Or has this topic already been covered on the list? and I'm just taking up Nope! James. P.S. If my attention is not fully on something, I will let it percolate and sink in whilst concentrating elsewhere... Well, enough of the details - I thought it said "Bonnie Swans" - a fave song of mine by Loreena McKennitt. Then I thought for a moment what a Sarah Slean version of that might be like... and failed miserably. In the same vein, what sort of covers do you think would be cool or interesting to see Sarah do? Be whimsical, be fluffy, be inventive. Though not terribly fluffy or inventive, I thought a great cover for Sarah would be "Pray Your Gods" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. Pretty powerful song, and for those familiar with it, Sarah's spin on it would probably be great. Anyway, back into lurk mode.... --Brian ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jul 1999 16:58:52 -0400 From: "James McGarry" Subject: Re: "Blue Parade" track listing Hola Soupers, - ----- Original Message ----- From: Bloo Sent: Friday, July 16, 1999 3:25 PM > In the same vein, what sort of covers do you think would be cool or > interesting to see Sarah do? Jane Siberry - "Everything Reminds Me of My Dog" Tory Cassis - "I'm not as strong as the days are long..." (I can never get any of Tory's titles right) Bruce Cockburn - "Tokyo" Bowie - "Lady Grinning Soul" or "Wild is the Wind" or maybe "Young Americans" Roxy Music - "Virginia Plain", "In Every Dream Home a Heartache", "Do the Strand", "A Song for Europe", "Mother of Pearl", but especially "Editions of You" since it relates so VERY well to Sarah's own "Elaine"! Jaques Brel - "Ne Me Quitte Pas" Monkees - "Day Dream Believer" Edith Piaf - "La Vie En Rose" Kurt Weil - "A Song for Amsterdam" (I think) The Doors - "Spanish Caravan" and a few hundred more :-) I know, almost no one will get any of the above... :-) And wow two songs I _haven't_ heard! "Before Your Time" and "Awake Soon"!! I think it'd be neat to hear a torch-song, like, 'I've got a crush on you", or "someone to watch over me" I bet she'd have more than a few chins on the floor. there's a song by Jonatha Brooke called "always" that would translate interestingly. ani "hour follows hour". wow, I am so sadly incapable of being fluffy. sexy or angst-ridden, is all I can do. On a more serious actual-covers note, I think Sarah could do something really neat with Ani DiFranco's lullaby "Overlap", and lyrically it's not too far removed from Sarah's own more hushed songs... and for some reason, I've always wanted to hear Sarah really just shriek, so it'd be awesome to hear her do Heather Nova's "Island" or Hole's "Doll Parts"... ooooh... yeah, I'd definitely like to hear Sarah shriek in one of her songs... I think the perfect rock chick would be some girl with an elegant understated dress, sensible hair and really well-placed makeup who gets up on stage, sings some really really gorgeous songs, and then sings the songs where she hatches off the back of her skull and just *screams*, and then does a few more beautiful small songs like nothing happened, and then very sweetly thanks the audience and goes offstage and, like, drinks juice or something, you know? Sarah's got the gorgeous songs/elegant dress thing down, and probably the juice thing down, but I don't know... is there any shrieking on the new album? Any pissed-off-ness that gets loud and unnerving? John === ain't no way i lost this war and ain't no way you won _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
