Why is it that sheep are always jumping over fences anyways? And if sheep are always jumping over fences, how come the other sheep aren't all falling asleep? New Zealanders must be sleepy all the time if there are all those sheep there. I'm getting tired. I'm off to count New Zealand sheep soupers. I heard about Sarah there a while back and decided to check out her music. Needless to say I was very impressed and bought her CD 'Universe' the same day via the 'net! I've been on this list for a while, but I tend to lurk. Actually, her CD is still doing the rounds on my CD player at home. :-) Tim +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Tim Propert | "What is to give light On the Web: www.seraphiel.com | must endure burning." The response to our special CD Release show has exceeded all our expectations. It's only been a day since I posted about it and there are already over 75 people to be added to the guest list! We have people coming in from Regina, Seattle, Atlanta, and even the UK! You folks are phenomenal, there just aren't enough superlatives and exclamation marks in this world to be able to describe you guys! Now here's our problem: we're already in danger of exceeding the capacity of the club just with the responses we've gotten so far. We really only have room for about 20 more people (including guests). So email Heather soon to avoid disappointment. However, good news: a third show has been added on Sat Aug 14 from 2-4pm, and this show will be *ALL AGES*. So all you under-19's and parents of younger kids can come to this one! Please email Heather again so she knows to add you to the guest list for the Saturday all-ages show instead of the Thursday night show. The Sat all-ages show be open to the public so all of you are welcome to come to this one. For all of you out-of-towners, if you really want your fix of Sarah, this is the weekend to come... 3 shows in 3 days! Expect some rare songs! It's not just a CD Release party anymore, it's... SLEANFEST '99!!! Email Heather NOW if you haven't already! Sorry to do another one-liner on this one, but being born in the Summer of Love, I feel I must... How about SleanStock 99? (in conjunction with another familiar *-stock happening this summer celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original *-stock) Now I wonder if we will all get in the spirit and dance in the mud and rain during Sarah's set... Hello lovelies. I've got a question...what actually goes on at a CD release show? Is it just a party celebrating the release, or is there an actual live performance involved? That would be absolutely groovy if there is an actual performance. Of course, this is assuming that I actually get my arse to beautiful Canada, but I am so determined to make it that I'm not worried at all. I'm a capricorn. I will be there. Oh yes, I *will* be there. *grin* Which brings another quick note up, just to inform you all that I am still looking for a ride from southwestern Michigan if anyone wants a trustworthy, non-psychopathic travel companion. I'm a psych major. Psych majors are tons o' fun! I have a few people to vouch for my sanity. Adam Lynch can, for instance. He's actually met me and knows that I'm not too terribly messed up in the head. It would be a total adventure! Midwesterners unite! Let's have a blast! :) Please pick me up. Please? Okay. Enough for now. Seems like I've hardly had any time to post to this, or any other list, since moving to NYC back in January, but I couldn't let this go without mentioning it here... As I mentioned privately to Steve Ito not long ago, my favorite musical discovery in NY so far has been a New Zealander named Julia Darling who lives here in NYC now. I didn't care much for the advance sampler EP a friend originally let me hear, but I was so impressed by her live performances I've seen that I really warmed up to her full-length CD, "Figure 8", which was just released this month. So fast-forward to today...I just received an order from CD Now in the mail (Beth Lisick, an indie artist from CA - very cool! But I digress :) )... there is a flyer in the CD Now package proclaiming Julia Darling the featured artist of the month, and check this out... "Julia Darling's Figure 8 is a beautiful, emotionally stimulating album that combines deep, clever and sometimes unsettling lyrics with sophisticated left-of-center pop musicianship. She's been favorably compared to everyone from Jeff Buckley to Radiohead to Tori Amos...", It goes on to say, "...she's been listening to Radiohead's OK Computer...and Rufus Wainright's self-titled debut album." Well, those of you who know where Sarah's tastes lie should certainly recognize that list of comparisons and influences! So I thought I'd pass it along as a recommendation for those of you open to hearing new talent, and I plan to mention Sarah's name to Julia next time I see her. :) Julia's CD is distributed on BMG here in the U.S....couldn't tell you if it's in the stores up there in my homeland of Canada. www.juliadarling.com btw, and I think CDNow.com has some audio up too. By the way it looks like I'll probably be seeing lots of you in Toronto for the album release parties in August. Can't wait! Cheers!
