I knew I loved Luka Symmons as a DJ (she's also quite a cool neo-folk artist), but now I know why. 8:24 a.m. January 19, 1999, Luka played "I Know" on her Java Jive program (my second favourite radio show after, you guessed it, RadioSonic). Great for Sarah and if you see Luka, give her a big hug! CFRU 93.3 FM in Guelph, Community Radio! This song is magical. Go Sarah! 8-} The only word that comes to mind is beauty. The piano work on this song is simply an ache of sadness, which fits incredibly well with the subtle discordances of the guitar. Did I mention her voice? The piano flows around her voice and the gorgeous harmonies like a liquid. There is an..."upstep" [1] used in this song that just gives me goosebumps at 2:38, 3:11 and 3:22. Go listen to it again! 8-} [2] The muffled/garbled words at the beginning finish with "I thought I saw the end of the world",...and it seemed to unlock the grace of the music. Sometimes I wonder what sort of music would be fitting for a ballet of the stars in the heavens. Then you hear a song like this. Um, wow? [3] "Oh, sometimes the way you see things the way you reach things the way that you see things its my heart" "Oh, twin moon you are my twin moon Take me upsky so I can kiss you Drink your starlight" Thank you a million times to Sarah, Heather and Steve for giving us this wonderful opportunity. *hugs to everybody* Now you'll pardon me while I go back to playing the song. - -Brian [1] hi. /me no musician 8-} [2] And if you haven't heard it yet, go download it! It is amazing! [3] At a loss for words? Me? Ok, one I can believe. But two? And today sort of a third? Hmmmm. Mari was in Seattle over New Year's, and on New Year's Eve we were heading to a party. When we got in the car, we decided to put on "Universe." Ok, cool. Good driving music. 8-} Getting off of 520, heading up the backside of Capitol Hill, I took my usual route. The song that began *exactly* as we got to that fateful traffic light? Relax, I'll get to that. I laughed and noticed that it started JUST as we got to "John" street. Mari started laughing because we were at the intersection of John and 23rd street. (How come I never noticed that before?) 8-} Do we know what song started playing yet kiddies?! [1] - ---- The next one? My friend lives on the East coast. We met because a mutual friend thought we sort of acted the same online... that we were "twins". We always call each other "twin" when we are referring to the other (or, as it has devolved to: "twinly", "twinkle", or lately - "twinkee" 8-}) So "Twinkle Moon" is just a wonderful title for the new song, methinks. 8-} [2] Yours in mysterious coincidences, - -Brian [1] If you don't know, I am not going to tell you! 8-} [2] hmmm, "twinkee moon" just loses any sort of hint of magicalness to my mind. ;-} - -- Brian Wilson -----------------------"Those aren't Sex muffins! -Coach bloo@blooberry.com ------------------Those aren't Love muffins! http://www.blooberry.com/ -----------Those are just BLOOberry muffins!" Now, I have the Media Player, but it won't play MP3s. Any ideas? I do have the WinAmp also, I was just wondering about the Media Player. Maybe I don't have the newest version? #2 Will Sarah's new album be released in the US? The newest version of Media Player (which plays MP3 files) is only in Internet Explorer 5.0 (beta). You can download this from http://www.microsoft.com WinAmp is also a good player, and more fun to use, the IE5 dialogue box that comes up is not terribly attractive looking. WimAmp also lets you select faceplates for the controls. http://www.winamp.com James. ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jan 1999 10:31:59 -0800 From: Bloo Subject: Re: media player/new album questions James McGarry wrote: > > The newest version of Media Player (which plays MP3 files) is only in > Internet Explorer 5.0 (beta). I thought I comprehended the world, no? But. There's a kind of rhythm instilled by the pattern of the vocal introduction, that just makes so much sense, after you've heard it once or twice. I just have this picture of.. one day.. people asking what all the words are, and starting arguments on some Slean newsgroup, and some FAQ having to explain what they are. And mark my words, still most people won't read it, because when you put a rational man in front of the computer, for some reason the 'jello' section of his brain becomes the dominant cortex. but then, I'm biased. Matt BLB - (a.m.radiohead FAQ creator) ... There are two versions of Media Player that the Microsoft people in their wisdom didn't use much different names for. The older one is just called "Media Player" (or "Microsoft Media Player", and the new one is called "Windows Media Player". Windows Media Player can play all sorts of different types of files, MP3's and RealAudio. Microsoft Media player doesn't have any nifty graphics or anything, it's just a barebones player. Windows Media player has a big window to play video in, and a smaller window below it to display information like clip name, author name, and copyright info. You can download the new Windows Media Player at the microsoft website. >Now, I have the Media Player, but it won't play MP3s. Stick with Winamp, it's better for playing MP3's than Windows Media Player. >Will Sarah's new album be released in the US? Not as far as I know, but I assume it will be available worldwide using the same distribution channels as for _universe_ (mail order direct from Sarah - -details on the website- and IndiePool).
