Hi everyone! I recently did a "who navy-soup" to get a count on the number of subscribers we have here, and we're well over thirty now. As such, I think it's a good time for me to do a introduction and welcome everyone to the list. In starting the mailing list, I had a certain vision in mind -- that when Sarah becomes more popular, there will be substantial Internet infrastructure in place for promotion. To that end, I think Steve and Gian have made admirable contributions far beyond what either Brian or myself have done. In case you missed Brian's welcome message, he says hi. Brian Wilson is one of my friends and co-listowner, although most of the time he is a code-monkey for Microsoft, working in Redmond, WA. As for myself, I'm a third-year computer engineering student living in good 'ol Toronto, Sarah's own town (okay, she's actually from Pickering, but what the hey, close enough :) ) So that's all I have to say for now! I must admit it was a surprise to see a message from Sarah herself (via Heather at What? Management) and quite pleasant. Hopefully Heather, at least, will be able to keep us up to speed on events and news Sarah-related, as she has in the past. Finally, good luck to Sarah on the impending release of her full-length album. Any day now, right? :) - - Julian P.S. Yes digest folks, I think I have fixed the "one-message-digest" problem -- less frequent digests, more in them is the order of the day. :) [ Julian C. No, I mean really 8-} >In starting the mailing list, I had a certain vision in mind -- that when >Sarah becomes more popular, there will be substantial Internet >infrastructure in place for promotion. To that end, I think Steve and Gian >have made admirable contributions far beyond what either Brian or myself >have done. Yes, starting the mailing list was the easy part, now y'all are doing the hard part. Listening to Miss Slean's music (oo, so formal! 8-}) and having fun talking about it. Seriously though, Steve and Gian do so much for Sarah, and Emm that I seriously want to throw props their way *suddenly imagining stage scenery being tossed towards Toronto* You two deserve many thanks for getting the word out about these great artists - again and again. It is your fault I know about these two great artists (well, it certainly helped that everyone I knew in Toronto was going nuts about them too... 8-}) >In case you missed Brian's welcome message, he says hi. Brian Wilson > is one of my friends and co-listowner, although most >of the time he is a code-monkey for Microsoft, working in Redmond, WA. Yeahyeah. I apologize for all the evil done in the world. Oh, and windows 98 too 8-} None of it is my fault. Really! 8-} > As for myself, I'm a third-year computer engineering student living in good >'ol Toronto, Sarah's own town (okay, she's actually from Pickering, but >what the hey, close enough :) ) From down here in heathen America we all think its the same place. 8-} >So that's all I have to say for now! Finally, good >luck to Sarah on the impending release of her full-length album. Any day >now, right? :) *stifling my anticipation to acceptable volumes* Thanks to Sarah and Heather for the notes and the wonderful lines of communication. It is nice to hear about what is going on Way Down South. I went up to Toronto about a week and a half ago, and picked up 4 more copies of Universe to spread around (I found another copy of Emm's the Original Leapyear too) so that makes 8 copies of Universe floating around in Seattle. The word will slowly spread, but... [more on this at the end!] >- Julian If you see Julian make sure you give him large and fuzzy hugs. JulianHugs are nice. 8-} >P.S. Yes digest folks, I think I have fixed the "one-message-digest" >problem -- less frequent digests, more in them is the order of the day. :) Unfortunately, for the last couple of months I have been swamped by a huuuuuge project, (which I finished on Sunday! Yay!) and I am starting to dig myself out. Until now Julian has been bearing the brunt of ALL the admin work for the list. I have, um. 8-} been a bit of a slacker. So... Word is being spread around here in Seattle, but I am afraid my efforts are just a bit on the meager side. Everyone I introduce to Sarah's music absolutely *loves* it. Julian mentioned a 'substantial infrastructure' in place as Sarah's popularity grows - but I am wondering how we all can do little things to help that. Especially us folks down in the US who feel like voices in the wilderness. There seems little to no chance of gaining any airplay through traditional routes - any suggestions? Would this be the wrong time to try to promote such a thing? Am I off my rocker? (wait... 8-} I may not want to hear the answer to that, k?) We have a radio station here in Seattle called The Mountain (103.7) that would be likely to play such music if there was enough coercion or interest. I know that stations like it exist elsewhere (Alice in San Francisco comes immediately to mind.) Are there plans to garner more widespread airplay through such friendly venues? Any plans to widen Sarah's exposure outside the Toronto vicinity? (I am sort of sheltered from how word is spreading about her in the TO area.) (just had the piano progression from Weight running through my head, so I threw on the EP) - -Brian 8-} Brian Wilson -----------------------"Those aren't Sex muffins! -Coach bloo@blooberry.com ------------------Those aren't Love muffins! http://www.blooberry.com/ -----------Those are just BLOOberry muffins!" Mari and I were eating at East Side Mario's in that big mall place in downtown Toronto last Sunday (November 1st!! 8-}) and looking at the menu what did we find? (I am going to screw this up, but this was the gist): "Angry (something) Angel Hair pasta (something)" And we both immediately thought of Sarah's line. Geesh, how random can you get? 8-} (and afterwards we went and walked through the deserted mall and watched the fountain fill up and um... "shoot its load" ;-} after 5-10 minutes.
