Mari and I went to the show on Thursday; it's the second time seeing Sarah at the Reverb, and we took the same seats we had last time :-) Mia Sheard opened, as Gian mentioned; she was pretty good although I personally found the pace of her set a little lagging in bits. I would say Joni Mitchell is definitely an influence :) Sarah's set this time was made up primarily of unreleased material, including "Playing Cards with Judas" (which I'd love to see on a recording soon ... anyone know how production of the album is going?) She also did "Universe" this time around, in response to an audience 'request'. (No, not mine, even though this song does include the words 'navy soup' ) She was very funny, as usual, between songs. It's hard to describe what's so funny about her comments except to say that she's very animated :) She's a virtual Dar Williams, that girl. Anyway, she did come up for an unexpected encore (she was the one not expecting it, not the audience), and someone shouted out "John the 23rd", so that's what she did. Yay! It's my favourite song off "Universe". One of my friends rates concerts in the following fashion: if he gets shivers up his spine, it's been a good show. So, by John Stewart's "Shiver Up The Spine" rating system, I would say it was an excellent show. - - Julian [ Julian C.
