Hey guys, I got two letters from people on the Jewel List after I asked if anyone went to Lunas show. They kind of made me wonder if Luna isn't very good live. I think a lot of artists are good on CD, but not live. What do you guys think? Here are the letters. >From: "Kelli Coppens" To: >jakemission@hotmail.com Subject: re: lunas show Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 >08:07:18 -0400 I dont know what people are fussing about? Okay, so of course I feel a need to say some things, but some of them would be out of hand, so, here is a start. Kelli: The show she saw was during an EDAF beach cleanup last September. Kelli and two other EDAs/'posers/EDAF members had a conflict, that became a big thing on the Jewel list, involving Sean Hooks. Luna is very good friends (so it appears to me) with the two unnamed EDAS/posers. Considering some of the EDA posts I read during that conflict, It would be easy make the assumption that Kelli's comments are just backwash from last year's flame war. Also, that was near the end of the Mariposa tour, and Luna had to have been tired. Or, maybe Kelli just does not like Luna's music.. I dunno.. Never met her, and was not present for that famous beach cleanup, so.... Derrick. Derrick is Derrick. When I first announced the opening of the Mariposa list, inviting everyone to join he sent me an email with the words "how cute." If he wants to view it as that she is just another female EDA with a guitar (which, there are more than a few, but..) fine, his loss. (A note though, if he did not think that she was good, and/or wouldn't make it big, why would he have pocketed her handwritten setlist after a show in ft worth last year, when it appear no one was looking?) Anyway, Personally, I think Luna is better live than on cd... but there is only one way for ya'll that haven't seen her play to be sure... Go See her play! So, anyway... rowdy ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 00:35:05 EDT From: Followerofjoe@aol.com Subject: Re: [mariposa] Bad Moon Rising (or, Luna Over Austin) >Hey guys, I got two letters from people on the Jewel List after I asked if >anyone went to Lunas show. Im just wondering. >Jake Don't pay much attention to Kelli's comments, Jake. She is primarily interested in following Jewel around, and not much else. At the Jewel Christmas taping of "Joy", she didn't like where she was sitting, so she moved and screwed up 2-3 of the songs by stumbling over the wiring. Sony magnanimously let her stay in the studio as Jewel had to REDO the songs for the TV special. After the show, Kelli felt "proud" that she had moved, even if it cost over $20,000 in public television funds to extend the taping. (She just doesn't get it.) Derrick has a cynical nature, so forgive the boy... he may also have written that post a bit "tongue in cheek" as well... ;-) For all the artists EDAs have been exposed to through Jewel, a surprising small number of them take the time to appreciate anyone BUT Jewel. Such is blind celebrity worship. Luna plays very well live, as long as you keep the air conditioning on! I saw her play dead once, but if you vigorously rub her on her belly, she can't help but start kicking her left leg! ;-) BTW, I'm not mad at you for bringing this up, Jake -- how's about the rest off you Followers of Joe... err, I mean 'Posers? Shall we spare "Jake the Bearer of Bad News" public flaming? Dennis ------------------------------ End of mariposa-digest V1 #27 *****************************
