I've been going to Patty shows since the 90's and although she is more confident and open on stage, the song selection seems to zap the energy out of the show. Maybe my expectations are too high from all of the great shows over the years, but my wife and I both felt like there was something missing at the L.A. show. Honestly, it feels like the shows for me have been dropping off starting with the Downtown Church shows. I'm reminded of Elvis Costello, who for years played whatever he wanted because he is an artist. I think he finally realized that getting people to show up at the shows requires at least a little give and take. His shows today are much better than they were in the 90's because he is seems to be trying to play the best of his material. At least that is my take on it. There are so many great songs that Patty doesn't even touch anymore. It is really a shame. I suppose if I were to list my top 10 favorite Patty songs (not sure I could do that), I can't remember the last time I've heard her perform any of them. Still, an "okay" Patty is better than most of the music out there. Okay, give me 3 steps before you start throwing things. :-) Bruce ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2014 08:26:33 -0700 From: Dionisia DeLaCerda Subject: MM: Re: Pretty Good Patty Show I am a long time fan. I saw her both in Denver and in Boulder (17th and 18th), and the performances were night and day. Denver I had two first-timers and, counting me, 4 season Patty-goers. We were all a bit underwhelmed by her performance in Denver. In contrast, the Boulder was Patty at her finest. I have been seeing her for over a decade, and one of my first concert was her with Emmy Lou. I feel like back then she was more shy, and reserved, but over the years I have seen her embrace her talent, and really become quite comfortable on the stage. Boulder was a great exhibition of that. She was chatty, happy and sang quite a few different songs than the night before, including Wild Old Dog. It was like two different people in my opinion. Anyone else see both of the Colorado Shows.
