Furthermore, this recent back and forth has nothing to do with my original intent in joining the list and I must confess that I'm struggling to see the benefit of staying here. A TRS-80 huh? :-) How did you get those hyperlinks on it? Now I know how I sound when I get upset over people getting upset over a handful of emails. Mike, does it really really matter? Of course the biggest break in etiquette may be the continued posts about things not Patty Griffin related. Not wanting to further anger the etiquette gods, I thought I would share a photo I took of Patty in Austin back in 2008. Enjoy. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QYuoWOOJCj4/SOkzQtGtV-I/AAAAAAAAAQI/GqXVTGb9Jrg/s1600-h/Patty+Griffin+2+-+ACL+2008+Friday+014.jpg And here is a video from that same day. I'm sure Bruce does the best he can, but digests were started when there were no smartphones, tablets or anything else out there. Sure it's sometimes hard to keep track of some of the posts, but if that so upsets you as to reply with snark, well, you need to step back and breathe. And there are always the Patty boards, which are more, shall we say, technologically friendly to modern devices. They still have life. http://www.pattygriffin.net/ http://www.pattynet.net/ As an aside, haven't seen a cross word on a Patty thread in a long while. And this is less than tame when compared to old wars and beefs (Murph and I can more than attest to that). And really, Bruce should be thanked for even keeping the digest up in a day and age where overwhelming social media has all but made these groups extinct. PS - I'm typing this on a TRS-80. ;-) > > mad-mission-digest Thursday, August 8 2013 Volume 16 : Number 099 > > > > Today's Subjects: > ----------------- > MM: digests [Matt Bouchie ] > Re: MM: digests [Mike Connell ] > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Date: Sun, 4 Aug 2013 08:18:58 -0700 (PDT) > From: Matt Bouchie > Subject: MM: digests > > Bruce said: "I know I'm as guilty of this as anyone. In my defense, if I have to take the time to edit the bottom part of the email I will think twice about posting. I can whip out a response to a message pretty quickly, focusing on what I want to say and assuming people are sharp enough to see the thread below me and understanding where I'm coming from. But the extra time it takes to decide what to take out and what to leave in, and then to put the quote around it appropriately (especially if I'm writing from my phone) is time and brain consuming enough to make me hesitate. I know that for people on digests this is very annoying, but those of us who get every email, it isn't an issue at all. And geez, there is so little email going through here these days, how much of an issue is it to scroll a bit more. And that's my defense, for what it's worth. I will try and be a better citizen here." > > > The points you give in your defense are just rationalizations to justify bad behavior. Between the problems with emails not showing up in the digests for days or weeks, emails being completely out of order in the digests and a prevailing attitude like this one, it's no wonder people left in droves with the recent spate of activity. I'd guarantee most of them were digesters like me. The ones who emailed the list asking to be removed probably couldn't find the instructions in the horrible mess the digests have become. Seriously, it takes 2 seconds to edit your post. Not only that, it's very discourteous to not do so. I'm on other lists where you would be called out publicly by 20 or more people for this behavior. And those are Yahoo groups digests which have a much more organized and easy to read format than this list. I don't want to switch to the news only version of this list but I may end up doing that. At least I'll be "sharp enough" to follow that. > > Matt > > ------------------------------ > > Date: Sun, 04 Aug 2013 11:41:49 -0400 > From: Mike Connell > Subject: Re: MM: digests > > At 11:18 AM 8/4/2013, Matt Bouchie wrote: > > it's no wonder people left in droves with the recent spate of > > activity.
