Nice set list! I'm a bit jealous since we didn't get Chief, Love Throws a Line and a few others you listed. About the rest, I hope she's ok. Could be she just hasn't toured this much in years and it's wearing her out? She's also doing a long set. We got 18 songs at our free show here, and looks like you got even more. I hope she's getting sufficient rest between shows, etc. Is it just me, or has she also been doing more marketing (TV shows, interviews, etc) for this album/tour than she did for any of her previous ones? Or does it just seem like that bc of social media? - -Lisa Sent from my iPhone On Jun 9, 2013, at 10:57 PM, Gretchen Gordon wrote: > Love this list (thank you, and there are never too many emailsI love every > scrap of Patty news), and I have lurked for a long time without posting. Am writing to pass along the set list from her show in Waterville, Maine, on Saturday night. . . and share a bit about the show. (Im still walking three feet off the ground after the rare joy of getting to see her liveoh, how I wish she got back to her birth state more often.) Setlist: Carry Me; Ohio; Don't Let Me Die in Florida; Wild Old Dog; Chief; Flaming Red; Irish Boy; Top of the World; No Bad News; Faithful Son; Love Throw a Line; Standing; Go Wherever You Want to Go; Get Ready Marie; That Kind of Lonely; I'm Gonna Miss You When You're Gone; and encores Railroad Wings (with a lovely story about how her dad and mom met); The Strange Man; Coming Home to Me. She sounded GREAT, put out tons of energy, and the pensive beauty of the new stuff was well contrasted with some really hard-driving tunes from earlier albums, including Flaming Red. But Im *worried* about her. She was shockingly thin. Theres mention on her Facebook page that she described herself as a train wreck in Boston. Last night in Maine, during the last number of the encore (Youre Coming Home to Me) she only made it halfway through the song, and her voice was breaking; she seemed to be in tears and stepped away from the mike to gain her composure. Then came back and (smiling ruefully) said, I think thats all Ive got in me, and then she left the stage. Dont know if she was especially emotional about performing in Maine (and with family in the audience) for the first time since her father died, or if something else has her more wiped out, in general. It was like she put out incredible energy for this show but had absolutely no gas left in the tank. I feel like I want to give her a hug and cook her a big comfort-food dinner. So glad to hear this! I'm not all too thrilled that she's doing an outdoor concert here instead of a proper venue, but knowing she's been playing stuff like Little God and songs off of Flaming Red has me excited about it. (Hopefully the noisy drunks will stay home bc they don't know who she is :P) - -Lisa Sent from my iPhone On Jun 3, 2013, at 7:09 AM, Davewells wrote: > as a long time reader who rarely ,if ever, posts and wants to stay on this > list ,i thought i would give an update on last nights concert at the birchmere > in alexandria ,va...i have always loved doug lancios guitar work but have to > say i was definitely impressed by pattys new band ,the guys from the southern > mississippi all stars..this was maybe the 7th or 8th time i have heard patty > and the new band allowed her do do some stuff i hadnt heard in a long > time...the bands impact was fairly immediate as she started her set with the > first two songs off the new album...listening to the cd ,i was lukewarm on > dont let me die in florida but with a bit more base and louder rhythm ,this > song definitely improved(maybe its my stereo ??)..i am guessing here but i > think somebody in her personal life may have convinced her she has some really > good stuff in her old catalog ..between mixing in songs from the new album > ,she went back to silver bell and played little god, actually rearranged and > solo ..she also played chief and love, throw a line...the band really helped on > an updated version of flaming red..the highlight for me was during the encore > set ,when she played carry me off flaming red-i have always loved this song > and blue sky off that album...carry me then flowed really nicely into ohio -no > robert but scott miller who opened for her did come back out...all in all ,a > great night !! > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Liz Lightfoot > To: mad-mission > Sent: Sat, Jun 1, 2013 12:25 pm > Subject: MM: Too sad for ads > > > This is great: > http://www.ottawacitizen.com/entertainment/Patty+Griffin+glad+voice+http+patt > ygriffin/8463009/story.html > > Liz ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 May 2013 13:57:51 -0500 From: Rob Hanning Subject: RE: MM: Silver Bell Fuck that 9%.
