I agree, it would have been nice to give the credit due. They will when she records it. IF she wins. Maybe she will even sing it again tonight if she wins. Stay tuned and see! She sang it well, but too many changes, to fast of tempo. I was thrilled to see a Patty song performed on Idol and I really like Crystal. I prefer Patty's arrangement and vocal though. I'm disappointed that they didn't mention Patty as the writer. It's such a beautiful song with such a great message and she really is one of the best songwriters out there. It's also becoming increasingly popular for Gospel choirs to perform it- check out youtube! On a side note, I'm happy to be in the studio recordig a c.d. of my own after a long lay off. I have a demo on my myspace page if anyone is interested have a listen! I do not recall anybody (Clarkson, Seacrest, judges, etc.) mentioning Patty at the time. I'm pretty sure Ellen wasn't one of the judges back then (man, I'm starting to sound like an Idol devotee--please don't assume that!), but it wouldn't surprise me if she gave Patty her due during her own (Ellen's) talk show. I pretty clearly recall that the next day, however, one of the network morning shows referred to Clarkson's performance and called the song a "gospel standard". Oh, and Bowersox' version was not so great. I cringed a bit, but not as much as with Susan Boyle's version. When her version enters the Hot 100 the song will have done so by two Idol winners (provided she wins lol) - Clarkson's was at 56 Best Chris, DE - --- Lawrence Israelson schrieb am Mi, 26.5.2010: > Von: Lawrence Israelson > Betreff: Re: MM: Patty/american idol > An: mad-mission@smoe.org > Datum: Mittwoch, 26. Patty's most recent release is some awesome gospel work entitled "Downtown Church". The music is great and soulful. I saw her perform some of the music in Austin in January (approx one week before the CD was released) ....she's been around, and as always, putting out beautiful passionate work. sheryl austin, tx - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisa Zwick" To: Sent: Wednesday, May 26, 2010 1:01 PM Subject: RE: MM: Patty wins Idol! >I did enjoy it. The idea of an entire gospel cd doesn't really grab me, so I have to admit, I haven't really checked out much of "Downtown Church." And isn't most of it covers? I miss the days of all-new Patty material, ranging in all sorts of styles. Some rock, some folk, some blues, some gospel. She hasn't rocked in ages! As for Idol, I just finished watching the finale, and cannot believe Lee won. I think he's got a terrible voice, and couldn't listen to most of his songs. Oh well. Maybe this way Crystal will have more power over her music? This is the first time I've taken any interest in anyone on Idol, and I hope she comes out with some good stuff in the future. - -Lisa - -----Original Message----- >From: sheryl novak >Sent: May 26, 2010 6:54 PM >To: Lisa Zwick , mad-mission@smoe.org >Subject: Re: MM: Patty wins Idol! > >Patty's most recent release is some awesome gospel work entitled "Downtown >Church".
