I did enjoy it. And I do want her to win. This is the first time I've ever taken even the slightest bit of interest in Idol, and only near the end. I watched a few of Crystal's performances and a few others, and I don't even know how the others stood a chance -- I ff'd through most of them. That said, I don't understand why her first single released has to be a cover, since she seems to be someone who'd be comfortable writing her own music. And if it is going to be a cover, why in the world don't they give any credit to the original??? Patty is not Lady Gaga -- she needs the exposure, and Idol would be pretty darn good exposure! Would it have hurt them to mention Patty's name before playing it? I don't mind some more artists out there like Patty. Especially since Patty's been kinda MIA for a while (I want some new music, dammit!). I just hope they don't turn her into another copy of the rest, by writing all her music for her. She seems genuine now, and I hope this doesn't change that. And having her do a cover song without mentioning the original already gives me doubts. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. - -Lisa - -----Original Message----- >From: Rachel Van Gorden >Sent: May 26, 2010 1:16 PM >To: jblevins@tarleton.edu, lmuhm@hotmail.com >Cc: mad-mission@smoe.org >Subject: RE: MM: Patty wins Idol! > >i hate to ask this but did you guys like chrystal's version of it? > >i wanted to but... > > > > > > >> From: jblevins@tarleton.edu >> To: lmuhm@hotmail.com >> CC: mad-mission@smoe.org >> Date: Wed, 26 May 2010 12:05:04 -0500 >> Subject: Re: MM: Patty wins Idol! >> >> Have too agree with >> >> Sent from my iPhone >> >> On May 26, 2010, at 11:49 AM, "LouAnn Muhm" wrote: >> >> > As usual, without the recognition she deserves--nobody even >> > mentioned her, and >> > when Ellen started talking about how there was nobody out there in >> > the music >> > scene today like Crystal Bowersox, I was just screaming at the TV; >> > "Except >> > Patty Griffin, who Crystal is imitating!!!!" >> > >> > >> > >> > >http://www.beatweek.com/news/6263-who-won-american-idol-patty-griffin-did-acc >> > ording-to-itunes/ >> > >> > >> > Peace, LouAnn Muhm >> > http://www.louannmuhm.com >> > >> > >> > Peace, LouAnn Muhm >> > http://www.louannmuhm.com > >_________________________________________________________________ >The New Busy think 9 to 5 is a cute idea. For the moment, it sound like Patty's studio version is now the top-selling single on iTunes, and that version and a live Patty recording are now the top two sellers in Patty's catalog on iTunes. Glad that people can search the internet, because Patty wasn't mentioned when Kelly Clarkson returned to Idol a few years back and performed the song, either. (Must have been soon after the release of Children Running Through.) Some correspondents reported on that Clarkson appearance by saying she sang a "gospel standard". Never could decide if Patty would be miffed for not getting proper credit, or gratified for having a relatively new composition mistaken for a classic of the genre...
