I have been sort of lazily looking at cruise options in the next year anyway, maybe Mexico or Alaska. I would not expect to be that interested in the evening shows on a regular cruise, but this one is tailor made for folks like me with my special musical interests like Patty and Shawn. If I went on another cruise alone, (as my boyfriend cannot get off from work for this, his 4 weeks are already planned with Strawberry Music Festival, Cancun, and such) so I would be doing a cruise alone and what fun is that? On this cruise, hopefully there would be a few MMers to hang with and all. Maybe we could even get a quad with 4 MM girls- 2 already mentioned to me that they might be interested in being roommates. I am likely buying a small sailboat next week and don't need this sudden bill on Thursday, so that is a problem, and my registration time is 2 pm on Thurs and I will not be home and able to access my computer at that time to make the reservation.( I am off to Kate Wolf Festival this weekend. Eliza Gilkyson!!!!!) So, maybe it is a little complicated and the whole thing could be skipped. I thought it looked like we had till Nov to finish paying, but the e-mail from them with my registration number sounded like it had to be paid in full at registration. Anyone know more about this part? I don't think it is so expensive tho, the cruises I was looking at seemed to run 6-7-800 and they don't offer such good music. I once went on a cruise, Royal Carribean, from NY to Bermuda. It was awesome and I loved every minute. It was late August with a hurricane in front of us and a hurricane in back of us and many people were seasick, but I escaped that fate. I admit I was sort of glad to place my feet on land as the ship rocked wildly from side to side the whole time. Look one way and you saw only seawater, the other way and you saw only sky. People up on higher decks were falling out of their bunks etc. We had a less expensive room lower in the ship on the inside, no windows, and we rocked much less. The food was great- I remember I never did get to that cooler with the chocolate eclairs as I was stuffed the whole time. This was way back in my other life, my honeymoon in 1981. Before most on this list were born, I suppose:). I still think it would be fun and I am still keeping it open as a possibility. I already lined up other nurses to work for me that week. Don, are you planning on going???? Dave???? Anyone else besides the few of us who have spoken up? I believe in being flexible and grabbing chances as they come- they might not come again. Cheers, Dana in Antioch- and I did go sailing Sat and yes, I did get terribly seasick -oops, and I have to get ahold of that patch thingy. I got those wrist bands today- I think they are a bunch of hocus pocus, but I'll try 'em:) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2007 08:20:45 -0700 From: "Lawrence Israelson" Subject: MM: Cayamo cruise My wife and I are 99 percent "in" for this (even though she's not really a fan of Patty-type music), and my soon-to-be 20-year-old daughter (almost as big a fan as me) is 50-50. Regarding somebody's earlier question about payment, it is my understanding that full payment up front (and no later than 7/27) entitles you to five percent off. Otherwise, you may book with 25 percent down and pay 25 percent more by each of the following due dates: 8/13, 10/1 and 11/27. Just came back from a Royal Caribbean cruise to Mexico (just the weekend thing for my mom's 80th birthday). The food and service is excellent (much better than the Princess Cruise we took to Alaska a couple of years ago (for my dad's 80th). It is a lot of food and can be a lot of fun. But be warned, there is money to be spent throughout the cruise. Between the tips you are expected to pay (and you really must since these hard working employees get paid very little) and the excursions and the tempting liquor and shopping and... well, it is hard to not spend a bunch of money on top of the set fees. But it is such a relaxing way to spend a vacation and with great music, it is hard to resist. Bruce ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2007 10:04:09 -0700 From: Pat Lewis Subject: [none] Hi all, I've just joined up here but am a long-time admirer of Patty. Thought I'd weigh in on a couple topics. First, my wife and I are definitely signing on for this cruise. If you crunch the numbers it may be slightly pricey but we're not going to sweat that too much; we love several of these artists and are excited to go (have cruised once before, too, and had a great time). We may have a group of friends coming along as well (just waiting to hear) but, if not, could possibly bring along our 3 daughters (23, 20 and 16, all music fans), though I imagine it won't exactly be their demographic. Are there any other younger types planning to go? Anyway, the 2 of us are going for sure and are looking forward to the whole experience, including meeting other fans. Can anybody give a review of a concert from Patty's current tour? (apologies if it was already done before I joined). We're seeing her in our home of Vancouver on July 19, for the first time (I stand to be corrected but as far as I know this will be Patty's first ever show in Vancouver). I assume she has a full band with her? How about a saxophonist? How long was the show? Comments on the show? Anything that can be passed along will be most welcome! Many thanks. I have been a travel agent for 20+ years. There is no better vacation value than a cruise even though I would prefer it be a different cruise line and e caribb instead of w caribb. I actually suggested a few years ago that we put one of these together for Patty and her fans like Lowen and Navarro do every year. Roy buy air to Ft Lauderdale and get xfers from the cruise line when you pay. It will be cheaper than Miami. Did I hear Brandi Carlile is on this too? I can not take her out of my CD player. I would love to see Jimmy Lafave added to this as well. It was recommended, however, that your fellow cruisers register for their own Sixthman IDs prior to booking because it will considerably speed up the actual reservation process. Your knowledge of everybody's Sixthman ID and password will allow the reservation engine to populate the various forms with the required personal information. Otherwise, you may be stumped during booking by a question regarding one of your "shipmates" that you can't answer. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2007 14:43:30 -0700 From: Roy Larsen Subject: RE: MM: RE: Hmm, cruise chat Hmmm, I'm not sure it's necessary for all parties to have an ID at the time of booking, just the "lead passenger". It is confusing.... At one point the instructions I got say: "If your guests do not register for a Sixthman ID in advance you will need their full legal name, date of birth, citizenship, email address, mailing address, phone number, emergency contact information, and T-shirt size to book them in your cabin. Any secondary guest booked on the Cayamo that does not already have a Sixthman ID will be assigned one, and will be sent his or her login details upon the completion of the reservation." and then right underneath that it says: "For security purposes, you will need both the Sixthman ID and the password of each person to pre-populate guest information during the booking process." Then after that, it says: "If you are unsure of who your guests will be at the time of booking, you can fill in whatever information you know and add additional guests later. Be advised that you are obligated for the full cruise fare of the occupancy level you select during the reservation process even if you do not provide additional guest information to us. You will only be charged the taxes and fees for each guest you provide during the booking process. If you later add additional guests to your cabin, you will be charged the taxes and fees associated with that guest when you do so." My point is, get an ID for all guests beforehand if you have the time because it can make things a lot easier (and take any ambiguity out of the process), but I wouldn't delay registering at your appointed time if your guests don't have their ID/passwords yet.
