AND according to my 10 year old daughter, Patty is K. Clarkson's ALL TIME favorite singer. Naturally I would have loved to have seen them mention that it was Patty's song. Pretty cool to have Jeff Beck along for the ride as well. - -----Original Message----- From: donhenn@msn.com To: mad-mission@smoe.org Sent: Wed, 25 Apr 2007 11:54 PM Subject: MM: Re: Kelly Clarkson to cover Patty tonight on American Idol Never heard Kelly perform before , & thought she did a good job. High praise considering that I am used to Patty's version. Patty's been skirting the edges of the big time for awhile now. Just a matter of time. Kind of like the artistic justification of hearing your fav artist cover another fav artist with their own unique and endearing spin on it. Last year, when someone did KT Tunstall's big song, it soon became a big hit. This show could bring Patty to a much larger audience. Does anyone know if they mentioned that Patty Griffin wrote the song? Although I like Kelly, I would have respected her a great deal more if she would have mentioned Patty. I also thought Ellen DeGeneres (who introduced her) might mention her since Patty was on Ellen's show, but no mention from Ellen either. - -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Scott Antall" > I missed Kelly Clarkson last night, but I found it on YouTube: > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR2m1MioNq0 > > She wasn't too bad - off course, I am partial to Patty. :) > > I have had a feeling this year that someone would do a Patty song on > American Idol. I was reading a news item on IMDB this morning about last night's American Idol episode and it said, "Another Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, performed gospel standard 'Up To The Mountain' with British guitar great Jeff Beck." I thought it was a mistake at first, but checked my copy of CHILDREN RUNNING THROUGH and could find no writing credits for any of the songs. Patty was in fine form and seemed to really be enjoying herself. It was great to see such a huge crowd but I have to admit that I enjoyed the much more intimate performances at the Ark. It looks like the days of seeing her at a small venue in this area are gone. BTW - she looked great - actually MOTOR CITY HOT! I grabbed the setlist after the show and it's posted on the photogallery link below. It's interesting because this is only setlist I've seen that was printed on a computer, rather than written out by hand. A few exceptions - she added "Forgiveness" that someone's requested. Before playing it she commented that she "doesn't do requests - but must be softening with age." Also noticed that she calls "Up to the Mountain", MLK It looks like she had wrote down a choice of six songs for the encore, and settled for three; "Rain","Long Ride" and "Getting Ready". After you click onto a picture on the photogallery link, there is an option to enlarge the photo's for viewing according to your computer screen. http://imageevent.com/canflyboy/pattygriffin Eugene ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V11 #123 **********************************
