I normally hate sending out an email like this, but there are no instructions on the website. I still love Patty, but the volume is just overwhelming. Thanks. Jim Murphy wrote: Thank you to everyone who took the time to make a donation in Patty's name to one of the more than 15 organizations around the world so that good deeds could be done. From the VAF (VVAF) , the ANSWER Coalition, F.I.D.O., the Pedigree Adoption Center, to the Keeta Fund, to the United Way, to a hospice for men at St Charles and all the others. This years Patty Griffin Birthday Fund Drive collected $3,630 for these organizations. In the 5 years we have had a Birthday Drive, we have collected a total of $25,496.47. Again, thank you to everyone! Happy Birthday Patty. - --------------------------------- Expecting? Get great news right away with email Auto-Check. Try the Yahoo! Eric Alterman is a columnist for the progressive magazine The Nation. He also writes for Media Matters for America and the Center for American Progress and for many years was affiliated with MSNBC. His "Altercation" column/blog at mediamatters.org is issued multiple times per week, and usually uses a song lyric as the title. In addition to political commentary, Alterman often writes about his musical favorites. The week before Patty played the Wiltern, Alterman came to Los Angeles to give a talk at the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy. A couple of weeks earlier, "Altercation" mentioned CRT as something new that had caught his attention. Based on his brief comment, it appeared that this was his first exposure to Patty's music, so I decided to make him a sampler CD to give him after his L.A. presentation. Knowing that he was a big fan of Bruce Springsteen and cabaret singers like Maude Maggart, I started the set with Tomorrow Night and included Stolen Car among the nine selections. During our brief chat, Alterman said that he had subsequently purchased LWG, and I told him about PG's appearance at The Beacon in NY (he teaches at Brooklyn College) next month. The day after the Wiltern show, I received the following e-mail message from Alterman: "Thanks so much for the Patty sampler. I needed it and she does, indeed, rock. And thanks for thinking of me. I appreciate it." Sounds like Patty has earned herself another "convert." :-D Cheers, Larry I in LA Click for free info on masters of IT degrees and make $200K/ year
