Do we know anything about Patty's romantic life other than she was once married? Oh, I'm just being curious. I was also questioning her orientation. Don't know why this occured to me but perhaps she is not writing from the male perspective afterall? Not that any of this is my business. :-) Okay...back to the music....sorry...but I am interested in Patty, the person as well. I won't be offended if anyone answers my curiosity. I noticed three words that she repeats in her songs: fly, silver, and shroud. I also noticed she uses a lot of Catholic references in her lyrics. Her singing styles is unique in the sense that she uses a lot of runs in her vocals. Since she incorporated several piano pieces in her latest work, I wonder if she has decided to excel in piano now? Last, I have received notice of my assigned concert seats at the Orpheum, Boston. I think they are pretty good. MEZZ Center Row A Seats 205-206. What a relief! Sorry for the scattershot quality but I lack the time to organize this email. - Ciao, Ally - -----Original Message----- From: LarryI@mail2larry.com To: mad-mission@smoe.org Sent: Mon, 26 Feb 2007 7:12 PM Subject: Re: MM: Railroad Wings Realizing that I could be as wrong about this as I was about Gina Gershon, I'll take a stab... Although it's very cryptic, this song strikes me as something that could be the female side of "Top Of The World" or "Long Ride Home," songs told from the male point of view about long relationships marred by an emotional gulf between husband and wife. The line near the end about "most everything means nothin', 'cept some things, they mean everything" just knocks me out and is in serious contention for my favorite lyric on CRT. As for the title (and again, just guessing here), decorative wings are a common motif on train cars (e.g., many Union Pacific locomotives have a winged shield painted on the nose), so perhaps the title is just an elegant synonym for train. In "Long Ride Home," the reference to "your tiny hand" is almost certainly a man describing a woman, and the section of "Top Of The World" where Patty describes sitting in a chair and being called for supper is textbook patriarchal behavior.
