Starting today and running until midnight on Pattys birthday on March 16th, we are asking all the fans of Pattys music to join us in making a donation to support a worthy cause of their own choice. In the past, the fund drive supported one of Pattys favorite charities but this year we have opened the drive so that many others may benefit from your generous support. So what we are asking you to do is make a donation in Pattys name to your favorite charity as a way of celebrating Pattys Birthday. It could be a national charity or one right in your own neighborhood like a girls or boys club. Here are a few that you may want to donate to; www.oxfamamerica.org www.veternsforamerica.org http://www.grammy.com/MusiCares/Donate/ The Emmylou charity that Arlene is associated with https://secure.hsus.org/01/emmylou_keeta_fund In the past few years we have raised over $21,800 for the charity. So lets all join in and see what we can do this year. After you have made your donation, please let us know by sending us an email telling us where your donation went to, and the amount. Emails should go to pattysbirthday@gmail.com If anyone has any questions, please email us at the above email address. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2007 08:17:43 -0800 (PST) From: Eric Phelps Subject: MM: Liking Patty Everyone has their entre to Patty's work, and I think the stories are probably as diverse as the range of her work. But I need to say this: I happy to adore Patty's work in general, but I don't like everything she's written either. As with any artist's body of work, there are some things that hold up better than others. (Though it's probably sacrilege here, I don't particularly like "Making Pies" and it too me quite awhile to start liking the whole "Flaming Red" album). I don't happen to like some of the artists that you folks immediately associate with Patty. I have tried & tried, but just can't get into Lucinda Williams. That doesn't make me less of a fan, or some weirdo. And we can think of literally hundreds of recording artists whose work we "loved" and then we lose interest. As a songwriter, I think that Patty's work has a tremendous power and I learn a lot from it. I also know that you can't always write the most perfect songs. That said: I think "Living With Ghosts" and "A Kiss In Time" are good places to start.
