Thanks for the help. I didn't think of youtube. The update is that she liked the two songs I was able to send her through my screwy cable connection. The youtube videos and other links should help give her a clearer idea whether she wants to go. So thanks :) And if she still decides not to go (part of it is b/c it's a weekday), I'll probably be opening it up to this list, so someone who didn't get a ticket can see her. - -Lisa - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lawrence Israelson" To: Sent: Saturday, February 03, 2007 8:52 PM Subject: Re: MM: How to convince someone that they really DO like Patty? > Looking at what Patty played in Boston the other night, I suggest: > > Useless Desires > No Bad News > Love Throw A Line > Long Ride Home > > Long Ride Home is the most downbeat of this group, but if your friend > listens to it and decides it's "sappy," then by all means quit trying to > force the issue. This question is why would you want to convince anyone that they really DO like Patty? I've had friends ask me to stop playing Patty, because the song annoyed them or they hated the mood of the particular song. ... so be it, to each their own. The is no accounting for taste either good, bad or similar. - ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Lisa Zwick" Reply-To: "Lisa Zwick" To: Subject: MM: How to convince someone that they really DO like Patty? Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2007 15:08:50 -0500 I invited a friend to go to the NYC show with me, thinking she would like Patty, since she listens to similar artists. She even said, when I originally asked, that she thinks she likes Patty. But after listening to the songs on myspace, she changed her mind, didn't really like it (except for maybe one song). She then remembered that she saw her on PBS (Austin City Limits) and didn't like those either. But I'm still convinced that she would enjoy Patty's stuff, thinking maybe she just got a bad taste of her music. Any thoughts on a few songs I could send her to try to change her mind? The concert is in only a few days and I want to give her a real taste of Patty in time, b/c if she's absolutely sure she doesn't want to go, then I'd want to find someone else who would. Oh and a reason she gave for her dislike was that she's "too sappy"(!!!). I would describe Patty as anything but sappy, which is why I'm convinced she may have just got a poor sampling of her songs (ie. Heavenly Day MIGHT be considered sappy). I was curious if anybody on the list is familliar with the Wiltern. I got tickets today for Patty's show there, but actually paid for less expensive tickets so I could get a seat. The more expensive tickets were standing room only, and I really did not want to stand for the whole concert. My seats are in Level 2, in the very back row. If anybody knows if these are good or not, I would appreciate your input. Thanks! Very cool Art Deco. As for the seats, it sounds like you are in the Orchestra. The last row isn't too bad: As long as you aren't under the balcony. The sound there really depends on how good the sound crew is. At some shows I've seen there the sound really sucked, while others were very good. I think you will be happy with the seats. I decided to suck it up and stand all night. The pit isn't very big, so we can sit around in the lobby if we have to.
