In the two shows I've been fortunate enough to see since the release of Impossible Dream, Patty performed about half of the songs that eventually were selected for the new album. With the possible exception of "No Bad News" (and with no disrespect intended for the others), I thought that the "moon song" was the best of the bunch. Perhaps we should start a campaign for "Children Running Through outtakes--exclusively on iTunes!" I may lose some die-hard credibility here, but I had no idea the song had been around that long. (I first heard it at the Seattle Woodland Park Zoo show in August, 2005.) Is an artist "too good for her own good" when material that would be a career highlight for most performers can't be accommodated on an official release? In case you are interested there is an article in the "Don't Miss Music" section on page 28 in the magazine MORE talking about her new album - It says: Patty Griffin - Children Running Through No wonder the Dixie Chicks and Emmylou Harris (who also harmonizes here)have covered Griffin songs. Crisscrossing musical boundaries from jazzy gospel to alt-country, her ethereal voice and melancholy lyrics soar, while rocking songs like "Getting Ready" will top your playlist. They also write about Carly Simon, Belinda Carlisle and Lucina Williams new albums as well. These tix are being offered at cost ($25 cash each, plus perhaps a beer handling fee) to MM'ers. I'm coming in from Houston, so I will be delivering them shortly before the show. The principal condition is that the tix must be used by you or someone you know; ie, not to be resold for a profit (there's karma involved in this portion of the transaction :)). If I don't have any takers by mid morning, I'll be heading off to craigslist, where the going price appears to be much higher than list. yours in patty, jim ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V11 #16 *********************************
