It didn't come close to grabbing me on the first listen in the way that "No Bad News" or "The Moon's Gonna Follow Me Home" (or whatever the actual title is) did. Without some sort of movie or TV tie-in, I really can't envision "Heavenly Day" as the song that propels Patty into the mainstream. From a selfish point of view, this would mean ongoing opportunities to see Patty perform in relatively intimate venues. In the interest of cosmic justice, however, I would grudgingly give those up if Patty could enjoy the commercial success she so richly deserves. It was just alright for me, dawg. It was a little slow for my tastes listening in the car-wise, but it would definitely make an excellent waltzing tune. I would definitely have this one on tap for dances!! All in all: a good song, yet a safe one. It makes me weary that this will be the single they push since they are giving us the taste early, because I'm sure there are better ones on this album that will speak far more words. However, that said... Can't wait for the whole album either!!! _________________________________________________________________ The MSN Entertainment Guide to Golden Globes is here. I more than hope. I'm sure of it. I doubt Patty Griffin can possibly make only an "okay" album unless she's bound and gagged and brainwashed. I've only heard the one song; and yes, I know exactly what you mean about some of her material growing on you after a first listen. I'll listen to it some more than I have, and also with the whole album when I get it. ....so close!! I love Patty Griffin a lot, and I know "Heavenly Day" is awesome for a lot of people out here. And it most certainly is an excellent dance tune. I think it's really good, and I love that it's Patty Griffin. Most of all I'm ecstatic that there is a new whole Patty Griffin album coming out. It just didn't "grab me" like her usual stuff does, and I didn't want the MM list to turn into a Group Think about the new song if it's going to be the official release. I'm not saying her material always has to "grab me" to be good, I'm saying this seemed like an awfully safe song to put out there hardly showcasing her tremendous voice or penetrating lyrics. - --------------- also I hope I'm wrong about "heavenly day" and that it becomes a hit if it is the offical release. However, has anyone else been to the tripleradio.com Web site? To be pick-alick-aleeno about it: on the first page they misspell Patty Griffin's name on the link. Okay, cheap shot. I'll admit that. I clicked aournd the Web site and yes, Mike Lyons does say that about Patty Griffin's song "Heavenly Day". That's exactly all he said about it, I was expecting a little more. It almost seemed patronizing; I'm sure he wasn't being in any way, shape, or form. Nevertheless, I skimmed up and down and that shorthand note on Patty Griffin seems to be the shortest blurb about anything in his writing (or "blog" or whatever those types of things are called). What I'm also really excited about, is that after a bit of silence, MM is opening quite a discourse on the new album here!! :-) Getting ever so close to that release date..... PG rocks!!!!!!! the radio community BETTER effing like her. And music directors are a good place to start.
