Patty's recorded rendition of it may be the standard version of it, but it comes across as pure self pity. -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: freckledangel@aol.com To: mad-mission@smoe.org, mad-mission-digest@smoe.org Subject: MM: Re: mad-mission-digest V10 #111 Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2006 12:23:31 -0400 >Someone wrote, "I guess no one noticed - or minded - >when Bette Midler covered "Moses" in 2000." > >Bette Midler covered Moses? Some of the comments are funny, some are uninformed, but some are just plain wrong. Patty Griffin is an artist who is way too underappreciated for the work she does. Whether or not she's making a comfortable living now isn't even the entire issue. She doesn't work 9-to-5 like a lot of us do. She probably doesn't have employer sponsored health insurance or 401K. As she grows older, she'll need money in the bank for retirement, she will need health care, and maybe it would be nice if for all the joy she has brought the world she might even get to travel and see some sights. Royalties from cover versions by over-exposed pop stars will go a long ways toward ensuring that comfortable future for a very deserving artist. This is NOT all about YOU. Jeff G re: From: "Mike Lewis" Subject: Re: MM: Jessica Simpson covering Patty Personally, I don't need Patty getting any more rich or popular than she is right now. She needs to keep touring, every year, in smallish venues, so that people like me can keep seeing her at affordable prices. Tired of spam? Yahoo! If that means selling lots of records and arena concerts I'm not sure that Patty is a "mainstream" artist. I wouldn't label any ATO artist as "mainstream" It would be a shame never to be able to see Patty's in an small venue. ----- Original Message ----- From: > To: > Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2006 12:42 PM Subject: Re: MM: Jessica Simpson covering Patty > Sorry Mike but ATO and others hope that the new album that is due out in > February explodes PG into the mainstream.
