So they buy up any copyright they can to make money off the talent they bought. They even go so far as to keep renewing copyrights from dead artists so they can still make money. Copyrights, I think, are supposed to last 75 yrs after an artist's death. Then it's supposed to be something like public domain or something. However, I've heard smarmy people in the recording industry going out and renewing these copyrights. As technology advances their days are numbered. Those phone calls were just scare tactics. They didn't work for the coffee shop I worked for. The manager told them to screw off, and never heard back from them. They are just being totally unethical. The whole point of copyright was so that someone got credit for his work and it wasn't just blatantly stolen by the publisher (which is what happened when the printing press started up, the printers would take credit for artists' works). Not so that some third party could make millions pawning someone else's song on to some pretty face's next album. But, you know, they are above the law. So until people stand against them and their lawyers they'll get their ways. Christ, they took a 12 yr old to court. You know why? To scare her into admitting she was stealing songs in court so they could set precedents for future court cases. pease luv and vegetable rights Paul *********************************** * * Well, there's gonna be sex, drugs, * rock n roll.
