Even Dylan, great and revered as he is, has plenty of detractors. In another relatively recent "list," Rolling Stone magazine announced its choices for the 500 best songs of all time, and "Like A Rolling Stone" came out on top. Afterwards, some folks ridiculed the idea because the song doesn't even have a bridge. Although the assertion can never be definitively "proven," I would like to offer a couple of observations that support the notion that Bob Dylan *may* be the world's greatest living songwriter: 1) People have paid attention to his music for more than 40 years despite the fact that he can't really sing; and 2) The number of performers who have recorded their own versions of Dylan songs is astonishing. Peace, Larry I in LA

However, many of their fans (including myself) feel Natalie was speaking the truth and should not have been punished for voicing her opinion. Obviously, the line was not meant for that purpose. Thus, after the incident in 2003, the song acquired a new meaning for the Chicks that strayed away from Patty's original intent. -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "rockerpgh _" To: Subject: MM: Dixie Chicks Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2006 20:24:48 -0400 >From a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette review of the concert in Pittsburgh on July 23, >comes the following: > > > >With Maines wielding an electric guitar, they ripped through their new >"Lubbock or Leave It" and segued to Patty Griffin's "Truth No. 2," which >sparked a fire in the audience with the misinterpreted line, "You don't like >the truth coming from my mouth." > > > >What does the reviewer mean by "misinterpreted?" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 2006 21:27:42 -0500 From: "Sandi Campbell" Subject: MM: Another Patty Cover? De-lurking momentarily to report some potential news. I heard an unconfirmed, not even necessarily valid, rumor this morning. I heard that Jessica Simpson was going to be doing a cover of a song called "Let Him Fly" on her new album. Now, the only song by that name that I know is, of course, by Patty, but I don't know for sure that this is the same song she is covering. And, I'm not sure what I think. Though, if true, it would be some more big exposure for this song since the Dixie Chicks. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Dixie Chicks, but I do think it was good that they did the cover. Anyway, if anyone has heard anything to confirm/deny, well, I just found it curious when I heard about it. - -Sandi ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Aug 2006 23:08:41 -0400 From: kaycee973@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Another Patty Cover?
