I've never met Patty Griffin one on one, but I do appreciate her music very much and her overall vibe. I think that its nice when an artist is friendly and approachable, but one should respect their personal space. After all, she bares her soul on stage...maybe a little privacy off stage is due.
 
My impression is that Patty is kind and lovely person, as well being an intense artist. Don't forget that even brilliant artists and performers can be shy in person off stage. Which makes it even more impressive that they can do what they do on stage, if shyness is an issue.
 
I don't know Patty and perhaps my speculation is wrong, but the way I see it is that she bares her soul on stage, and therefore deserves space off stage. You can catch people on a good or bad day, and I'm sure people have had varying degrees of experience in meeting her offstage, but I would give her the benefit of the doubt and just appreciate what she does as an artist. Again, I've never met her but I have sat in the front row while she gave a great performance and I've appreciated her from a distance. 

Some people are more approachable than others, at different times, and under different circumstances. Give them the benefit of the doubt if possible, because it takes a lot I'm sure to be a performing artist and you have to also preserve your own sanity, I'm sure, to keep doing such amazing work as a performer. Give her a break.

hi everyone... just wanted to fill you in on this girl. just checked out her 
website and shes got some killer songs and an amazing voice. she kinda 
reminds me of patty, in the sense that there is a lot of passion and emotion 
in her voice (which im a sucker for) i guess shes worked with Gillian Welch 
too. shes featured in a couple songs...
